Job summary

Atterro is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist in Eden Prairie, MN. You will set up, program, and operate CNC equipment to manufacture high‑quality components, ensuring adherence to specifications and schedules. The role requires reading blueprints, selecting tooling, and maintaining equipment in a modern shop environment.

You will work 3 PM – 1:30 AM, Monday–Thursday, and contribute to continuous improvement while ensuring safety and quality in every part produced.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical machining education preferred.
  • One year of trade school; CNC programming education preferred.
  • Three years of applicable machine shop experience.
  • Experience reading blueprints and engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC machines to produce precision components.
  • Inspect finished parts for tolerances using precision measuring tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and machining prints.
  • Maintain tooling and perform preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Follow safety procedures and contribute to continuous improvement.

Perform machining operations in accordance with MTS Machine Shop procedures and work instructions. Utilize documentation and skills to provide parts and assemblies to internal and external customers that meet quality and schedule requirements.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school, machining certificate, or CNC programming education preferred.
  • One year of trade school
  • Three years of applicable experience in a machine shop environment

Experience Requirements

  • Experience operating, setting up, or programming CNC machine tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges.
  • Understanding of machining principles, tooling, feeds, speeds, and material properties.
  • Strong attention to detail, mathematical ability, and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Must understand and apply basic machining knowledge.
  • Machining tolerances and measuring equipment, tooling selection, machine setup and operation.
  • Common machining symbols on MTS prints.
  • Understanding of material characteristics and proper machining techniques.
  • Work from proven processes or work instructions to complete daily activities.
  • Work holding and fixture use.
  • Perform CNC machining operations on a variety of parts and components
  • Complete machine setups accurately and efficiently
  • Inspect finished parts for tolerances, surface finish, hardness, and material specifications
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and machining prints
  • Verify dimensions using precision measuring equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machines as needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Identify quality concerns and communicate findings to supervisors
  • Assist with workload demands, scheduling priorities, and cross-functional operations
  • Cross-train in multiple machine shop disciplines including CNC lathe, CNC mill, grinding, and manual machining equipment
  • Follow all safety procedures and support continuous improvement initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with CNC mills, lathes, machining centers, or multi-axis equipment is preferred.
  • Experience editing CNC programs, setting tooling offsets, and performing machine setups is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with G-code, CAD/CAM software, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, Fanuc, or similar CNC controls is considered an asset.
  • Individuals who demonstrate strong troubleshooting abilities, continuous learning, and commitment to precision manufacturing are well positioned for success as a CNC Machinist.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work around machining equipment throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift materials, tooling, and components weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to safely operate CNC machinery and precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery while following established safety procedures.
