Job summary

Howmet Aerospace is hiring for a CNC Machinist on-site in California to set up and operate CNC lathes and other equipment for aerospace components. You will interpret drawings, perform setups, and run tools with FANUC or OSP controls, ensuring parts meet specs through in-process inspections.

Applicants should have 7+ years in manufacturing or machining, blueprint reading skills, and proficiency with precision measuring tools. A strong focus on quality, safety, and teamwork is expected.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 7+ years of manufacturing, machining, assembly, or machine operation experience preferred.
  • Advanced machine setup, operation, and process optimization.
  • Advanced troubleshooting of machining, tooling, and equipment issues.
  • Ability to calculate and adjust machine feeds and speeds.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments; SPC knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC lathes and other CNC machining equipment to manufacture precision aerospace components.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, specifications, and process documentation to determine machining requirements.
  • Perform machine setups, including workholding, tooling, tool offsets, tool changes, and establishing appropriate machine parameters.
  • Operate CNC equipment utilizing controls such as FANUC and OSP (Okuma).
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Verify part dimensions and features against drawing requirements and applicable specifications.
  • Perform first-piece/first-article inspections and adjust machines or processes to maintain conformity.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, dimensional, and equipment issues and escalate as needed.
  • Monitor machine performance to meet quality, productivity, and delivery expectations.
  • Complete required production, inspection, and manufacturing documentation accurately.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC lathes and other CNC machining equipment to manufacture precision aerospace components.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, specifications, and process documentation to determine machining requirements.
  • Perform machine setups, including workholding, tooling, tool offsets, tool changes, and establishing appropriate machine parameters.
  • Operate CNC equipment utilizing controls such as FANUC and OSP (Okuma).
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measurement equipment, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Verify part dimensions and features against drawing requirements and applicable specifications.
  • Perform first-piece/first-article inspections and make necessary machine or process adjustments to maintain product conformity.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, dimensional, and equipment issues and elevate problems to Lead, Supervisor, Engineering, or Quality personnel as appropriate.
  • Monitor machine performance and production requirements to maintain established quality, productivity, and delivery expectations.
  • Complete required production, inspection, and other manufacturing documentation accurately.
  • Maintain machines, tooling, work areas, and equipment in accordance with department standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve machining processes, reduce downtime, and improve quality and productivity.
  • Maintain compliance with all company, department, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
  • Work effectively with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and other support functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business and production requirements.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments and gauges.
  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), manufacturing quality systems, and preventive maintenance.

Work with various types of materials such as Titanium, Inconel, 4130, 17-4, A-286, Aluminum and other stainless steel

  • Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Ability to operate multiple machines and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong mentoring, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with Syteline or similar manufacturing software preferred.
