Job summary

Novolex, Bedford Park, IL, is hiring a CNC Machinist for 2nd shift with a strong focus on setup, operation, and precision 3–5 axis milling. The role requires experience with Fanuc or Mazak controls, G&M coding, and Blueprint reading.

The position offers a competitive hourly rate and weekly pay, with overtime as needed. Responsibilities include maintaining safety, conducting first-run inspections, training peers, and ensuring accurate documentation in shop software.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Machinist Certificate or MIMS preferred.
• 3–5 years CNC vertical machine tool setup and operation for complex precision components.
• Fanuc and/or Mazak control experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and apply shop math.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC vertical milling machines in 3, 4, and 5 axis configurations; simple programming at the controls.
• Ensure proper blueprints and setup parameters; troubleshoot with shop leadership.
• Inspect first-run and in-process parts for accuracy and quality.
• Train other department personnel on essential tasks and provide feedback to the shop manager.
• Maintain clean and safe work area; perform housekeeping of production spaces and equipment.
• Accurate record-keeping in shop floor management software.

• Competitive starting pay range of $32.34-$36.50 per hour, paid weekly - Based on Experience

• 2nd shift
• Monday - Friday
• 8 hours
• 02:00 PM-10:30 PM

Job Description

• Maintain our safe working environment with participation in company-wide safety procedures, training, and safety programs. Set up and operate several different brands of CNC vertical milling machine tools in 3, 4, and 5 axis configurations. Simple programming at the controls is required for set-ups.
• G & M coding experience required.
• Must be able to communicate machine setup parameters, troubleshoot set-up and operational issues working closely with shop leadership.
• Conduct proper inspection of first run and in-process parts.
• Train other department personnel of lower classifications on essentials of their jobs and provide the shop manager / shift feedback on the performance of individuals with whom the machinist trains.
• Must do general housekeeping of manufacturing areas and equipment to ensure a clean and safe environment. This includes sweeping and mopping of the production area, wiping down the machines, and removal and disposal of waste and rubbish.
• Accurate record-keeping in shop floor management software.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Higher education in machining is preferred. (i.e., Machinist Certificate; MIMS Certificate)
• Minimum of 3-5 years of directly related experience in CNC vertical machine tool setup and operation for manufacture of complex precision components. Must possess outstanding skills in complex set-up of 2D and 3D milled tooling components. 3D mold machining experience is a plus.
• Must have Fanuc and/or Mazak-based control experience. Ability to learn 4th axis setup and programming.
• Must be experienced with proper use and care of precision measuring equipment including various outside/inside/depth micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, height gauge, dial bore gauge, etc.
• Must possess the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Must be able to read, write, and apply practical shop math.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Manual machinist skills are a plus.
• Flexibility to work overtime as required.
