A day in this roleAs our CNC Machining Operations Lead, you guide a first-shift team of roughly 15–20 professionals, including about 3–5 team leads. Your morning starts on the floor: a quick safety walk, a stand-up with leads, and a review of quality results, schedule attainment, and machine utilization. You’ll coordinate with Quality, CNC Programming, Manufacturing Engineering, and tooling/equipment partners to clear bottlenecks, stabilize processes, and keep the plan on track.Midday might include coaching a lead through a performance conversation, reviewing CMM data to validate process capability, and reallocating staff to match your labor forecast. Throughout the day, you drive 6S, Lean, and cross-training, and you own departmental metrics—cost, throughput, first-pass yield, and on-time delivery. You’ll close the loop with SOP updates, budget oversight, and support for AS9100, EHS, and customer audits. What you’ll ownDirect first-shift machining operations for a team of ~15–20, including ~3–5 leads/co-leads.Recruit, onboard, train, evaluate, coach, and develop machining talent.Continuously improve safety, quality, productivity, staffing levels, and machine utilization.Deliver process and workflow improvements across equipment, tooling, and methods.Champion 6S and Lean/continuous improvement, and expand cross-training and flexibility.Build labor forecasts; track productivity; prepare cost reports and staffing plans.Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to create/maintain SOPs and procedures.Administer budgets and coordinate shared resources for the department.Support AS9100, safety, environmental, customer quality, and audit requirements. What you bring~10 years in CNC machining with deep, hands-on expertise.5–10 years leading machining teams and overseeing a substantial CNC operation.Advanced blueprint literacy and strong GD&T mastery (datums, controls, tolerances, inspection results).Broad CNC know-how: equipment, tooling, setups, capability, processes, and troubleshooting.Exceptional technical problem-solving and decision-making.Comfort collaborating with Quality, CNC Programming, Manufacturing Engineering, machinists, and tooling/equipment vendors.Demonstrated success coaching, mentoring, cross-training, and developing machinists and floor leads.Experience handling performance issues using coaching and progressive discipline.Proficiency using and teaching micrometers, calipers, and precision metrology tools.Ability to interpret CMM outputs to guide production, quality, and process adjustments.Capability analysis skills to confirm that parts can be produced to spec.Preferred extrasBackground in aerospace or other high-complexity precision machining.Lathe experience, especially Mazak Integrex or similar multi-task platforms.Technical or trade-school education; technical foundation paired with business education is a plus.OSHA 10/30 or comparable EHS team participation.Strong Microsoft Office skills and fluency with ERP/MRP systems.Leadership DNAGrow people: coach, mentor, and create clear development paths.Hold teams accountable while removing root-cause barriers to performance.Stay composed and professional in tough conversations.Build bench strength—prepare machinists and leads for broader roles.Thrive amid change, growth, Lean, 6S, continuous improvement, and innovation.Operate effectively in a hands-on, privately held, rapidly scaling environment.Where you’ll do itApprox. 65 CNC machines on-site in St. Peters; ~90 across the company.Occasional collaboration with another facility on transfers, capabilities, and processes.Minimal travel; limited to no direct customer interaction.Compensation & benefits96 hours of PTO in year one, accruing from day one.Nine paid holidays plus a paid anniversary day.Health, dental, and vision coverage.Voluntary and basic life insurance; AD&D; EAP.Short-term and long-term disability; parental leave; Teladoc services.401(k) match: 100% on the first 3% contributed, plus 50% on the next 2%.
