Job description

General Dynamics Land Systems is a global leader in the design, development, production, support, and sustainment of tracked and wheeled military equipment, specifically the Abrams Main Battle Tank and the Stryker Family of Wheeled Combat Vehicles.

We are looking for skilled machinists / CNC Operators to join the GD Land Systems team.

Responsibilities Include:
  1. Perform various machining operations such as turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, reaming, tapping, and contouring. Enter revisions of programmed dimensions, feed rates, spindle speeds, etc., on the machine console. May operate multiple machines at a work center, lifting, pulling, and pushing manufactured products at the established rate of production.
  2. Operate and understand measuring instruments such as height gauges, micrometers, and calipers. Preset tools using equipment like optical tool setters, gauges, or fixtures. Calibrate and adjust tool-setting equipment as necessary.
  3. Oversee machining operations, identify and correct problems such as improper depth, size, or location of holes, and worn or broken tools. Maintain tooling and ensure proper tool changes.
  4. During machining, clean and lubricate drilled holes, check critical dimensions, and measure using gauges and other devices at the end of cycles.
  5. Complete tasks such as preparing machining equipment to meet close tolerances, understanding tool layouts, performing basic math for setting tools, and locating machining points.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate has intermediate to advanced manufacturing skills. Candidates with basic skills will also be considered.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical training or certification from a licensed technical or trade school, preferably in machining, or 6 months to 2 years of experience
  • Strong desire to contribute ideas and learn new skills
  • High mechanical aptitude, good communication skills, attention to detail, team player, strong work ethic, and career growth desire
  • Must be a US Person (legal permanent resident of USA)
