Job description

Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist (Tools and Fixtures) - 2nd Shift

Location: US-CA-Huntington Beach

Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled CNC Lathe Machinist with Programming Skills who can also design, fabricate, and maintain custom tools and fixtures. This dual-role position is ideal for a machinist who thrives in a precision manufacturing environment and can independently manage lathe setups, create G-code programs, and build support tooling for production efficiency.

Shift: 2: 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Compensation: $30/hour - $35/hour + $1.00 Differential

Responsibilities:
  1. CNC Lathe Operation & Programming:
    • Set up and operate CNC lathes to manufacture precision components based on engineering specifications.
    • Program CNC lathe machines using G-code.
    • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T to ensure accurate machining.
    • Select appropriate tooling and materials; set speeds and feeds for optimal performance.
    • Adjust programs and machine parameters for accuracy and part quality.
    • Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision tools to ensure conformance to tolerances.
    • Troubleshoot machine or programming issues and make necessary corrections.
  2. Tool & Fixture Making:
    • Design and fabricate custom tools, jigs, and fixtures to support production and machining operations.
    • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to determine tooling needs and implement solutions.
    • Maintain and repair existing tools and fixtures to ensure optimal performance and safety.
    • Utilize manual machining tools (mill, lathe, grinder, etc.) as needed to build or modify components.
    • Maintain accurate documentation for fixture designs and modifications.
Skills / Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or apprenticeship in machining, CNC programming, or tool & die making preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in CNC lathe operations and G-code programming.
  • Experience designing and fabricating custom tooling and fixtures (manual or CNC).
  • Proficient in blueprint reading and applying GD&T.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable using CAM software and machine controllers (Fanuc, Haas, Siemens, etc.).
  • Ability to work from sketches or verbal instructions to build fixtures.
  • Experience with manual machines (mills, lathes, surface grinders) a strong plus.
Work Environment:
  • Regular standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of hands and manual dexterity for precise machining and tool work.
  • Exposure to loud noises, coolant, sharp tools, and metal shavings.
  • Mandatory use of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection).
  • Fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a focus on safety and quality.
