Job summary

Major Tool & Machine, an Indianapolis-based precision contract manufacturer, seeks an experienced Mazak 670 machinist to own complex aerospace work from programming through final inspection.

You will perform on-the-fly programming adjustments, setup tooling, and run your own quality checks, delivering high-tolerance parts with accountability and pride.

Qualifications

• Strong aerospace machining background.
• Experience with custom, one-off work.
• Ability to independently manage complex parts from start to finish, including programming, setup, and inspection.
• Comfortable reading detailed aerospace prints and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Perform MDI programming and make on-the-fly adjustments on Mazak 670 equipment
• Run programs provided by a CNC programmer and optimize them at the machine as needed
• Complete full setups, tooling selections, offsets, and part prove-outs
• Troubleshoot machining challenges, including rigidity issues, chatter, tooling failures, and process flow
• Read and interpret detailed aerospace prints and GD&T
• Conduct precise in-process and final inspections
• Produce high-tolerance custom and one-off aerospace parts
• Work confidently with horizontal turning processes

This role runs on Mazak 670 horizontal turning/mill-turn equipment, producing custom and one-off aerospace parts rather than repetitive production runs.

Pay, benefits and schedule

Competitive base pay starting at $30+/hour, based on skill and experience. Day-shift schedule, with time-and-a-half after 40 hours and double-time after 48 hours.
