Position Summary

The CNC Engineer reports directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and operates with minimal supervision. This role is responsible for maintaining process integrity, ensuring on‑time product delivery, and meeting quality requirements — with a primary focus on CNC manufacturing processes.

Key areas of responsibility include CNC programming, RCCA and PFMEA support, development of manufacturing instructions, process improvement implementation, and hands‑on production support.

Key Responsibilities
CNC Programming & Process Optimization
  • Develop and optimize robust CNC programs for 3-axis and 5-axis machining centers and routers using CAM software.

  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine the most efficient manufacturing methods.

  • Select appropriate cutting tools, calculate speeds and feeds, and optimize machining parameters.

  • Provide well‑documented setup sheets and operator instructions.

  • Support operators during new job run‑offs and troubleshoot existing processes.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards and manufacturing best practices.

Manufacturing Engineering & Continuous Improvement
  • Collaborate with project engineers and production teams to determine best‑fit manufacturing methods (e.g., routing fixtures vs. CNC machining).

  • Perform quality control evaluations and resolve machining‑related issues.

  • Reduce setup times and enhance fixtures for improved error‑proofing and efficiency.

  • Participate in and drive continuous improvement initiatives in CNC programming and operations.

  • Stay current with advancements in CNC and manufacturing technologies.

Tooling & Technical Development
  • Design, develop, and modify tooling, molds, drill fixtures, and assembly tools for composite parts and assemblies.

  • Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, and manufacturing documentation to meet customer specifications and delivery schedules.

  • Improve tooling designs and fabrication processes to enhance manufacturability.

  • Prepare technical documentation for RFQs and support new business proposals.

  • Conduct make‑versus‑buy analyses and provide recommendations to leadership.

  • Perform producibility studies to evaluate process reliability and recommend improvements.

  • Assist in capital equipment justification and future process planning.

  • Develop production operation specifications and vendor instructions for outsourced operations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Interface with customers regarding tooling configuration, tolerances, cost, and schedule impacts.

  • Support Quality teams with inspection requirement determinations using blueprints and specifications.

  • Contribute to Lean initiatives, cellular standardization, and continuous improvement practices.

  • Maintain accurate technical records, schedules, and documentation.

  • Assist with departmental budgeting activities as needed.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
