Job summary

Orion Castings is seeking a skilled CNC CAM Programmer to lead high-precision CNC machining programming and setup, focused on optimizing machine performance, process efficiency, and product quality.

You will create and interpret programs, select tooling, fixture design, and collaborate with design teams and manufacturing suppliers to drive process improvements, reduce cycle times, and cost-effective production outcomes.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in CNC programming, setup, and operation.
• Proficiency with CAM software (Mastercam) and knowledge of Makino or Matsuura milling machines.
• Strong ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T; skilled with tool selection and speeds/feeds.

Responsibilities

• Create new and alter CNC programs using CAM software; interpret drawings, GD&T, and CAD models to prepare milling machines for operation.
• Select, install, and align tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices for efficient setups.
• Perform offsets, tool length adjustments, and part probing to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Set up 3-, 4-, and 5-axis milling machines for small production runs and tooling.
• Analyze and optimize cycle times, tool paths, and machine parameters for efficiency and quality.
• Recommend tooling upgrades, fixtures, and programming changes to minimize scrap and downtime.
• Serve as a technical liaison between design engineering and manufacturing suppliers to support design for manufacturability.
• Drive cost-down activities by analyzing every aspect of the machine process.

Position Requirements

• Experience in CNC machine programming, setup, and operation experience
• Experience with advanced CNC milling equipment such as Makino and Matsuura
• Proficiency in G-code/M-code and expertise with CAM software like Mastercam
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
• Expert knowledge of cutting tool selection, speeds/feeds, and work holding methods
• Ability to work with a variety of materials including magnesium, aluminum, soft and hardened tool steel

Duties and Responsibilities
