Orion Casting is seeking a CNC CAM Programmer to lead high-precision programming and setup. You will work on 3–5 axis milling, optimize cycles, and collaborate with Design for Manufacturability to improve efficiency and reduce scrap.

Qualifications

• Experience in CNC machine programming, setup, and operation.
• Proficiency in G-code/M-code and Mastercam CAM software.
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
• Expert knowledge of cutting tool selection, speeds/feeds, and work holding methods.
• Experience with magnesium, aluminum, soft and hardened tool steel.

Responsibilities

• Create new and alter existing CNC programs utilizing CAM software, interpret drawings and CAD models for milling machines.
• Select, install, and align tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices for setups.
• Perform machine offsets, tool length adjustments, and part probing for accuracy.
• Set up 3,4, and 5 axis milling machines for small production runs.
• Analyze and optimize cycle times, tool paths, and machine parameters.

Summary The CNC CAM Programmer will lead high-precision CNC machining programming and setup operations, focused on optimizing machine performance, process efficiency, and product quality. This role involves advanced CNC program creation and interpretation, tooling selection, fixture design, and problem solving for complex machining tasks. Collaboration with design teams and manufacturing suppliers will be essential to drive process improvements, reduce cycle times, and achieve cost- effective production outcomes.

Position Requirements

• Experience in CNC machine programming, setup, and operation experience
• Experience with advanced CNC milling equipment such as Makino and Matsuura
• Proficiency in G-code/M-code and expertise with CAM software like Mastercam
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
• Expert knowledge of cutting tool selection, speeds/feeds, and work holding methods
• Ability to work with a variety of materials including magnesium, aluminum, soft and hardened tool steel

Duties and Responsibilities

• Create new and alter existing CNC programs utilizing CAM software, interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and CAD models to prepare CNC milling machines for operation
• Select, install, and align tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices for efficient and robust setups
• Perform machine offsets, tool length adjustments, and part probing to ensure dimensional accuracy
• Setup 3,4,and 5 axis milling machines for small production runs and for tooling.
• Analyze and optimize cycle times, tool paths, and machine parameters for efficiency and quality
• Recommend tooling upgrades, fixture improvements, and programming changes to minimize scrap and downtime
• Act as a technical liaison between design engineering and manufacturing suppliers to support design for manufacturability
• Drive cost-down activities by systematically analyzing every aspect of the machine process
