Job summary

Karman Space & Defense in Corona, CA is hiring a CNC 5 Axis Machinist for 2nd shift to prepare tooling, set up CNC machines, and produce high-precision components for aerospace and defense programs.

Collaborate with programmers and management to streamline setups, uphold AS9100 quality standards, and ensure parts meet customer requirements. Schedule is Monday–Friday 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on a 2nd shift pattern.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent.
• Experience operating CNC equipment as determined by Karman.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to communicate with all levels of management.
• Familiarity with Siemens 840D and Fanuc 31i-B5 controls.
• Understanding of machine setups, tooling, and cutters.
• Ability to communicate with internal customers.
• Knowledge of QMS reporting and process adherence.

The CNC Machinist supports second-shift production operations by preparing tooling and materials, coordinating efficient CNC machine setups, and manufacturing high-precision components. The role works closely with programmers and management to streamline workflow, uphold quality standards, and ensure that finished parts meet customer requirements and contribute to safe, reliable product performance.

Schedule

This position follows a 2nd shift weekend schedule: Monday - Friday 5:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m.

Responsibilities

• Implements AS9100 procedures and supports continuous improvement efforts.
• Maintains clean, organized work areas and performs general upkeep of CNC machines.
• Cleans, inspects, and properly stores fixtures and tooling.
• Coordinates machine prioritization with management to support production needs.
• Collaborates with programmers to streamline setups and reduce manufacturing time.
• Requests cutters, tooling, and related resources to support machining operations.
• Operates CNC machines to produce high-precision components.
• Reports quality or workflow concerns and recommends improvements to management.
• Evaluates potential impacts of product failures on customer requirements.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Adequate years of CNC equipment operation experience as determined by Karman.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
• Experience with Siemens 840D and Fanuc 31i-B5 controls.
• Thorough understanding of machine setups, tooling, and cutters.
• Ability to communicate directly with internal customers.
• Training in applicable changes and customer requirements.
• Knowledge of Quality Management System (QMS) reporting, record keeping, and process adherence.

Physical Requirements

• Constant standing, walking, or sitting for at least eight hours.
• Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, or carrying up to 50 pounds, minimum of 35 pounds.
• Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate keyboards and equipment.
• Ability to see clearly at approximately 20 inches or less; corrective lenses may be used.
• Prolonged periods of repetitive movement.
• Constant holding, grasping, turning, or handling with the hands.
• Occasional reaching overhead, at shoulder level, and below shoulder level.
