Job description

Collections Specialist collaborates with borrowers to achieve the primary objective of acquiring payment on delinquent loans. Makes determinations based on customer contact as to collectability of loans and recommends appropriate additional collection steps to the collections manager.

FOCUS ON ACCURACY AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Contacts borrowers by telephone and/or mail to determine the reason for delinquency. Makes attempts to collect payment and records information about the status of the customer and collection efforts in appropriate collection software. Works with the manager to determine vital collection actions, such as charge-off, repossession, and foreclosure. Supervises collection processes, both internally and with external agents, such as attorneys, to ensure timely action is taken and arranges the resale of foreclosed and repossessed assets. Analyzes assets to determine if repairs are vital and arranges for said repairs. Assists in dealer floor plan audits, credit reporting disputes, bankruptcy petitions, judgments, and settlements.

Takes advantage of development opportunities by enrolling in webinars and bank-offered courses to build knowledge of departmental processes. As knowledge and experience grow, there are opportunities for advancement to a Collection Specialist II once the employee possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully complete a foreclosure. Training tracks are crafted to help understand how the job impacts other areas of the bank, provide tools for effective conversations, and ensure success in new roles. Annual, job-specific training opportunities are available, and some travel may be required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED required; related experience and secondary education preferred. A background screening will be conducted.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret documents. Professional communication and interpersonal skills to write and speak effectively with clients and employees. Ability to communicate directly and effectively with clients.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: Ability to utilize telephone systems and demonstrate good digital literacy, including email, internet, and intranet use. Willingness to learn Core system, Microsoft Office, and other relevant computer programs.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math operations and interpret data through graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to understand and carry out instructions, and solve problems involving multiple variables in standard situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Typical office environment with moderate noise, involving use of computers, phones, and printers. Attendance at seminars or training sessions is expected when necessary.
