Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.
Provides assistance with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support. Assists residents with transfers, repositioning, walking, and range of motion exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, assisting residents with meals and snacks, and providing water and supplements as appropriate.
The NA aids providers and nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions, and communicates changes in condition. Collects non-invasive specimens, gathers vital signs, and provides housekeeping and laundry services. Encourages residents to participate in wellness and recreational programs. May participate in departmental committees as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred. Must have CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing or be in the process of obtaining it. Must complete yearly competency testing and maintain continuing education credits. May require a valid driver’s license and be medically qualified to perform driving responsibilities.
