Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.
Provides assistance with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care to residents. Assists with transferring, repositioning, walking, and provides range of motion and passive exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, assisting residents with meals and snacks, and providing water and supplements as appropriate.
The NA aids providers and nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions, and communicates changes in resident condition. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services, and encourages resident participation in wellness and recreational programs.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required. Minimum age 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience preferred. Required CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing, or certification process underway. Must complete yearly competency testing and maintain continuing education credits. May require a valid driver’s license and medical qualification for driving responsibilities.
