Job summary

PruittHealth in Estill, SC seeks a CNA Phlebotomist for a Monday–Friday 8:00–5:00 schedule. You provide routine nursing care and perform daily phlebotomy under supervision, with focus on patient comfort and accurate data collection.

Duties include blood draws from older adults, specimen processing, maintaining infection control, keeping areas stocked and clean, documenting results, and coordinating with the lab manager.

Qualifications

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and related software programs.
  • Attends continuing educational programs to keep abreast of changes in the field and maintain current license/certification as required.
  • Participates in mandatory in-services.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities according to the CNA job code 0101, Department 6300 for HCC.
  • Performs blood collections from patients, mainly older age group.
  • Maintains infection control processes and ensures safety compliance with OSHA/CLIA/federal regs.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, documents information correctly.
  • Orders and maintains laboratory supplies and coordinates with the lab manager.

Job description

CNA Phlebotomist – M‑F 8‑5

Job Purpose

Provides each of the assigned patients with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the patient’s assessment and care plan, and as directed by the nurse supervisor. Under the direction of the manager, performs daily phlebotomy activities accurately, professionally and in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities according to the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) job code 0101, Department 6300 for HCC.
  • Handles laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure requests for laboratory tests are properly ordered, cancelled, and charged.
  • Correctly identifies all patients to avoid mistakes that can affect treatment.
  • Performs blood collections from patients, mainly older age group.
  • Performs specimen processing, preparation and distribution of specimens.
  • Maintains a constant awareness of policies and procedures, always ensuring enforcement of infection control processes when working with or around patients.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, reassuring them and making them feel at ease; communicates on the phone and face‑to‑face by being courteous, prompt and polite, and documents information correctly.
  • Orders and maintains laboratory supplies.
  • Keeps all work areas clean and properly stocked.
  • Handles information with discretion and always maintains confidentiality.
  • Coordinates and consults with the lab manager regarding lab‑related issues.
  • Works independently and as part of a team.
  • Complies with all OSHA, CLIA, and federal regulations.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and related software programs.
  • Participates in center/agency surveys (Licensure/JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.
  • Attends continuing educational programs to keep abreast of changes in the field and maintain current license/certification as required.
  • Participates in mandatory in‑services.
  • Honors patients/residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self‑determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints.
  • Complies with corporate compliance program.
  • Reports job‑related functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards, including exposure to blood and body fluids, as necessary.
  • Follows established safety regulations, including fire protection & prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc.
  • Follows established safety procedures when performing tasks and/or working with equipment.
Minimum Education Required

High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of an approved phlebotomy training program.

Minimum Experience Required

A minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience required with geriatrics.

Minimum Licensure/Certification Required By Law
  • Active, current, and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant certification in the appropriate state.
  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • Driver’s license.
