Job summary

PruittHealth is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant in Decatur, Georgia to provide daily nursing care and deliver phlebotomy services to patients. This role includes responsibilities such as maintaining laboratory data collection systems and ensuring patient comfort.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, be a graduate of an approved phlebotomy training program, and have at least one year of experience in phlebotomy, particularly with geriatric patients.

Active certification as a Nursing Assistant and phlebotomy certification are required. This is a full-time position with a first shift schedule.

Qualifications

  • Active, current, and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistance certification in the appropriate state.
  • Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience, preferably with geriatrics.
  • Phlebotomy Certification required.

  • Performs daily phlebotomy activities accurately and professionally.

Job description

Job Purpose: Provides each assigned patient with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the patient’s assessment and care plan, and as directed by the nurse supervisor. Under the direction of the manager, performs daily phlebotomy activities accurately, professionally and in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities according to the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) job code 0101, Department 6300 for HCC.
  • Handles laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure requests for laboratory tests are properly ordered, cancelled, and charged.
  • Correctly identifies all patients to avoid mistakes that can affect treatment.
  • Performs blood collections from patients, mostly older age group.
  • Performs specimen processing, preparation and distribution of specimens.
  • Maintains a constant awareness of policies and procedures, ensuring enforcement of infection control processes when working with or around patients.
  • Effectively communicates with patients, reassuring them, making them feel at ease when present. Communicates on the phone and face to face by being courteous, prompt and polite. Ability to document all information correctly.
  • Orders and maintains laboratory supplies.
  • Responsible for keeping all work areas clean and properly stocked.
  • Handles information with discretion and always maintains confidentiality.
  • Coordinates and consults with lab manager regarding lab-related issues.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Complies with all OSHA, CLIA, and federal regulations.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Computer skills – proficient with Microsoft Office and other software programs.
  • Participates in center/agency surveys (Licensure/JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.
  • Attends and participates in continuing educational programs to keep abreast of changes in your field and to maintain current license/certification, as required.
  • Attends mandatory in-services.
  • Honors patients/residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self‑determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints.
  • Complies with corporate compliance program.
  • Reports job‑related functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards, including exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • Follows established safety regulations, including fire protection & prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, and other safety procedures when performing tasks and/or working with equipment.
Minimum Educational Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an approved phlebotomy training program.

Minimum Experience Required

A minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience required with geriatrics.

Minimum Licensure/Certification Required By Law
  • Active, current, and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistance certification in the appropriate state.
  • Certified nurse assistant in accordance with the laws of the issuing state.
  • Phlebotomy Certification.
  • Driver’s license.
