Job summary

Salem Health Hospital in Salem, Oregon, is seeking a certified nursing assistant to support the Oncology unit by providing direct patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, and documenting vital signs as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Full-time position, 36 hours per week, non-exempt, with 12-hour shifts from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm. Oregon CNA certification and BLS are required for employment.

Qualifications

• Certified in the State of Oregon to practice as a CNA.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

Responsibilities

• Completes personal care on each patient as directed by plan of care, with appropriate supervision.
• Documents patient information concisely using medical terminology.
• Monitors and records vital signs and reports changes to the nursing team.

Your role with us

As a certified nursing assistant on this unit, you will play a vital role in supporting patients and families by providing high quality care, assisting with activities of daily living, monitoring and reporting patient needs and supporting nurses with tasks. You will work closely with an interdisciplinary team including social services, registered dietitians, palliative care and the Salem Health Cancer Center to deliver holistic, patient centered care.

What you'll do

• Completes personal care on each patient as directed by plan of care, including policies and procedures, without continual direct supervision.
• Accurately performs skills per policy and procedure.
• Completes only those skills duties for which competency has been demonstrated basic and advanced skills checklists.
• Documents pertinent patient information concisely and legibly using acceptable medical terminology and abbreviation on all assigned patients.
• Assumes additional clerical responsibilities as department needs dictate.
• Monitors and record vital signs, reporting changes to the nursing team.
• Supports nurses and healthcare staff in delivering personalized, high-quality care.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and healing environment for patients and families.
• Provides emotional support and compassionate care during vulnerable moments.
• Communicates clearly and respectfully with patients, families, and team members.

Required qualifications

• Certified in the State of Oregon to practice as a CNA.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS).
