Job summary

Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is seeking Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) staff to provide basic patient care under supervision. Roles include assisting with activities of daily living, maintaining patient safety, and collaborating with RN to monitor patient status.

Position supports patients in various care settings, follows isolation precautions, and participates in routine documentation within the EHR. A strong patient-centered approach is required.

Responsibilities

  • Observes patients experiencing suicidal ideation, behavioral health issues, or other safety concerns to ensure safety and stability.
  • Reports significant changes or unusual occurrences to the primary Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Records and reports all information within the scope of knowledge in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Conducts regular environmental assessments to ensure the environment is free of objects, equipment, medications, etc., that a suicidal patient may use to harm themselves.
  • Must be able to work in situations with isolation precautions.
  • Provides basic care including hygiene and ADLs such as bed baths, showers, grooming, dressing, toileting, and oral hygiene.
  • Assists nursing staff with mobility using safe transfer techniques, patient transport, ROM, ambulation, restraints and safety measures.
  • Obtains and records vital signs, temperature, height, weight, and other parameters as directed.
  • Documents findings in the EHR and reports to the RN.
  • Identifies and reports changes in patients’ status to the RN.
  • Performs patient treatments such as application of heat or cold and simple non-sterile dressings.
  • Provides ostomy, post-mortem, and indwelling catheter care.
  • Assists with oral suctioning, care of tracheostomies, and care of long-term feeding tube sites (not nasal tubes).
  • Performs non-invasive collection and transport of specimens, blood glucose, and monitoring of intake/output.
  • Transports patients and equipment; maintains cleanliness and safety of equipment.
  • Maintains safety protocols, infection control, and standard precautions.
  • Collaborates with nursing and supportive staff; performs clerical duties (phones, requisitions, schedules).
  • Answers phones, completes requisitions, schedules tests and appointments, scans and files reports, orders supplies and maintains medical records.
