Job Summary: Assists in performing a variety of nursing care services for patients.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Receives patient care assignment from the registered nurse (RN) in charge. Initiates delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing nursing activities for specific patient age group served.
  2. Collects and documents data for admission assessment and reassessment at specific times. Provides appropriate data to the licensed nurse for analysis and validation of patient’s response to care or treatment, especially when significant changes occur.
  3. Relays information via charting and communicates effectively with team members.
  4. Informs licensed nurse of any changes in patient condition/needs, patient complaints, and educational needs of patients and significant others.
  5. Answers patients’ calls for help, takes vital signs, and monitors behavior and physical condition for progress or deterioration. Assists with baths, ambulation, feeding, skin care, hygiene, bed-making, dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, toileting, turning, cough and deep breathing exercises, catheter care, biological specimen collection, and recording intake/output.
  6. Prepares patients for discharge and accompanies them upon dismissal as needed.
  7. Stocks and maintains supplies and equipment according to patient care needs and cost efficiency.
  8. Performs delegated clerical duties such as answering phones, relaying messages, transcribing physician orders, and organizing medical records.
  9. Orients new patients and their families to the nursing unit.
  10. Operates mechanical and manual equipment following user manuals, recognizing mechanical issues and initiating corrective actions.
  11. May perform point-of-care testing following policies and procedures.
  12. Works in a constant state of alertness, maintaining safety standards.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to communicate effectively.
  • Frequent hearing to detect body sounds and alarms.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, and data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision for near and far distances, including color recognition.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, and repetitive movements.
  • Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships.
  • Occasional lifting/moving patients and objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional use of smell to detect odors.
  • Occasional driving.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
