Job description

Caregiver 2 Role Summary:

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and dependable Caregiver 2 to provide high quality personal care and support to older adults and individuals with complex care needs in a center based healthcare environment.

Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor or Manager, the Caregiver 2 provides hands on personal care while also serving as an experienced resource to other caregivers. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patients while helping onboard, train, and support fellow team members.

The ideal candidate has experience caring for elderly or frail patients, including individuals with dementia, and holds an active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide (HHA) certification.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform Caregiver 1 responsibilities, including providing personal care and escort assistance according to each patient's individualized care plan.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including grooming, dressing, peri care, showering, bathing, toileting, meal preparation, feeding, housekeeping, and laundry.
  • Observe patients for changes in condition and promptly communicate relevant changes to appropriate team members.
  • Provide onboarding and ongoing training to Caregiver 1 and Caregiver 2 team members using established manuals and formal training materials as a guide.
  • Demonstrate the appropriate use of safety and lifting equipment and provide positive, supportive coaching to other caregivers regarding proper techniques.
  • Actively participate in departmental meetings and family meetings as needed.
  • Follow safe care practices, including proper body mechanics, universal precautions, infection prevention practices, and environmental safety procedures.
  • Interact professionally and compassionately with patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare team members.
  • Encourage patients to participate in appropriate conversations, activities, and social interactions.
  • Maintain accurate care related documentation using designated forms and/or the electronic health record.
  • Use basic computer applications, including email, electronic health records, and other systems required for the position.
  • Work independently while collaborating effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, organized, and patient focused care environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with an elderly or frail population.
  • Experience working with seniors with dementia.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) OR Home Health Aide (HHA) certification
  • CPR certification
  • First Aid certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
  • Must be flexible and maintain a positive, compassionate, and professional attitude.
  • Knowledge of safe patient handling and lifting practices.
  • Ability to properly use safety and lifting equipment and explain correct techniques to other caregivers in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Basic English reading and writing skills are required.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use or learn multiple applications such as email and electronic health records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, caregivers, supervisors, managers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast paced healthcare environment while managing changing priorities.
  • Ability to provide onboarding, guidance, and ongoing training to other caregivers.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Minimum of one year of experience working in a center or clinic setting.
  • Bilingual Cantonese and English or Spanish and English skills are highly desirable and may be required for specific assignments and daily patient interactions.
  • Previous experience training, mentoring, or supporting other caregivers.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A genuine commitment to providing compassionate, respectful, and high quality care to older adults.

Working Environment:
  • Work is performed on site in a center based healthcare environment.
  • The position may work alongside clinical professionals such as Registered Nurses, Primary Care Providers, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, Medical Assistants, and other healthcare team members.
  • A designated workspace may be provided for documentation and administrative responsibilities.
  • Work areas are expected to remain neat, orderly, safe, and free of unnecessary clutter.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including gloves, masks, gowns, goggles, and other protective equipment as needed.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast paced and highly distractible healthcare environment.
Location and Work Type:
  • Environment: On-site working with multiple patients.
  • Physical Requirement: Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Type: Full-time contract role Monday - Friday 8 am -5 pm
