Job summary

Good Samaritan in Tyndall, SD is seeking a Nursing Assistant (NA) to provide resident-centered care in a long‑term care setting under RN supervision. You will assist with daily living activities, monitor vital signs, and participate in wellness and recreational programs.

Requirements include a CNA certification (to be obtained within four months of hire) and a minimum age of 16. Prior long-term care experience is preferred and competency testing is required annually.

Qualifications

• CNA certification required; must be obtained within four months of hire.
• Minimum age of 16.
• Prior CNA experience in long-term care preferred.
• Complete yearly competency testing with 12 hours of CE per year.
• Maintain UAP Registry registration where applicable.
• May require Sanford Category II driver license and medical licensing qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide resident-centered care under RN supervision.
• Assist with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and other daily activities.
• Record and monitor vital signs.
• Assist with transfers and mobility using proper techniques.
• Perform range-of-motion and passive exercises.
• Help with meals, dining, and hydration.
• Assist with housekeeping and laundry to maintain clean living areas.
• Document resident interactions and care outcomes.
• Report changes in resident condition to charge nurse.
• Collect non-invasive samples and gather vital signs.
• Support wellness and recreational activities for residents.
• Participate in committees or task forces as needed.

Salary Range: $19.00 – $25.50

Job Summary

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. She/he provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) while following infection prevention and control policies and personal protective equipment (PPE) use. The NA assists with basic health‑care needs, including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, vital‑sign monitoring, psychosocial support, and range‑of‑motion exercises. The NA also participates in food preparation, dining, housekeeping, laundry, wellness, recreational programs, and may serve on committees or task forces as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide resident‑centered care and daily assistance under RN supervision.
• Assist with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and other basic activities.
• Obtain and record vital signs and provide psychosocial support.
• Assist residents with transferring, repositioning, walking, and using proper transfer techniques.
• Perform range‑of‑motion and passive exercises.
• Prepare meals, serve food and snacks, and provide water and supplements as appropriate.
• Assist with housekeeping and laundry to maintain clean living areas.
• Document resident interactions, care outcomes, behavior, activity, and dietary information.
• Report changes in resident condition and care concerns to the charge nurse.
• Collect non‑invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
• Support wellness and recreational programs and encourage resident participation.
• Participate in departmental and organizational committees or task forces as requested.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED (preferred but not required).
• Minimum age of 16.
• Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required; must be obtained within four months of hire or be in the process of certification through endorsement.
• Complete yearly competency testing and maintain continuing‑education credits (minimum 12 hours per year).
• Maintain all required certifications and, where applicable, registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
• May be required to hold a Sanford Category II Driver license and meet medical and licensing qualifications.
