Major Responsibilities:
- Assist RN with daily patient care including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, and ambulation, which may involve therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion, and special transferring as indicated.
- Measure and document vital signs and other patient data accurately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Perform purposeful rounding under RN supervision, communicate observations and concerns promptly, and document appropriately.
- Participate in admission, transfer, and discharge processes under RN supervision, ensuring proper room setup, patient belongings management, and call light accessibility.
- Collect specimens and perform point-of-care testing as indicated, maintaining competency as required.
- Handle errands such as delivering trays, charts, and specimens; maintain and stock nursing area; clean equipment and workspaces.
- Assist with patient positioning and transportation, including lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique and assistive devices; support nutritional needs under RN guidance.
- Maintain skin integrity through repositioning and skin care; ensure provision and maintenance of patient supplies and appliances.
- Perform tasks such as IV removal, post-mortem care, and bladder scans as directed by RN and site requirements.
- Follow infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene, sterile procedures, and proper disposal of contaminated materials.
- Provide age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles, and interpreting patient data to meet individual needs.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) within 45 days.
- Nurse Aide certification in good standing with the State Registry.
Education Required:
- GED or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.
Experience Required:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
- Maintain annual educational requirements for hospital certifications.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders.
- Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, 20 lbs overhead, and carry up to 40 lbs over a distance.
- Push/pull with 30 lbs force; perform sliding transfers of 150 lbs with assistance.
- Use foot pedals, have functional vision and hearing.
- Work in environments with potential hazards, wearing protective clothing as necessary.
