Summary

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to residents during scheduled work hours in long-term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Delivers age-appropriate care related to residents' physical and psychological needs as per care plan. Expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and use Personal Protective Equipment.

Job Description

Assists with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support. Helps residents with transfers, repositioning, walking, and range of motion exercises. Supports food preparation and dining, assists with meals and snacks, and provides water and supplements as needed.

The NA supports providers and nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions, and communicates changes in condition. Collects non-invasive specimens, vital signs, and assists with housekeeping, laundry, wellness, and recreational activities. May participate in departmental committees as needed.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience preferred.
  • Required CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing or in process of obtaining it within four months.
  • Completion of yearly competency testing and ongoing education credits.
  • State-specific certifications and registration may be required.
