Job Summary

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use. Provides assistance with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care to residents. Assists with transferring, repositioning, walking, and exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, assists residents with meals and snacks, and provides water and supplements as appropriate. Documents resident interactions, communicates changes to the charge nurse, and collects vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services, supports wellness and recreational programs, and may participate in organizational committees.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience preferred.
  • Required CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing or within four months of employment through a training program or endorsement. Facility provides training and certification.
  • Completes yearly competency testing and maintains continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
  • Registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry if applicable.
  • Dependent on responsibilities, may require a valid driver’s license and medical qualification for driving as per policy.
