Description:The Clinical Assistant 2 provides care to individuals across the lifespan in a rural ambulatory care clinic.This position is essential in maintaining efficient clinic operations and patient flow to maximize provider’s time and ensure access to care.Clinical Assistants perform administrative duties, data management, and handle basic clinical tasks that are more complex than those of a Clinical Assistant 1.Responsibilities include performing nebulizer treatments, cast removal, DM foot screenings, and other procedures based on competency assessments.This information is documented in patient charts along with patients’ medical histories.This position works closely with providers, providing support such as rooming patients, point of care testing as ordered, and answering phones.Processing provider orders, data entry, and participation in training processes are also required.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities:Performs the duties of Clinical Assistant 1, applying more extensive knowledge of medical practice and terminology.Prepares for patient visits by reviewing charts for necessary forms, follow‑up labs, or procedures.Obtains and records age‑appropriate vital signs per department protocol, such as temperature, height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry.Updates medical history and confirms medication history.Accurately collects and documents information in patient charts.Keeps patient records organized, with all forms properly identified, and compiles other medical data as needed.Ensures patient medication and immunization records are current.Recognizes signs or symptoms requiring prompt intervention and acts appropriately.Transports patients within the facility as needed.Demonstrates the ability to manage patient care duties smoothly while maintaining clinic flow.Reports and records any observed changes in patient conditions, unusual incidents, or breaches in safety.Observes patients to ensure that those requiring assistance have someone in attendance.Sets up equipment and supplies for routine exams and minor procedures.Prepares patients for and assists with procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries.Provides specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT).Follows protocols for collecting, labeling, and transporting specimens.Applies heat/cold packs, applies oxygen, and obtains 12 lead EKGs as ordered.Assists patients with ambulation or transfer and performs minor treatments.Provides basic patient education material and discharge instructions as directed by providers.Sanitizes exam rooms between patients and ensures sterile package integrity of surgical equipment.Maintains a safe and clean environment.Ensures exam room supplies are organized and stocked.Maintains lab equipment and organizes supplies.Discusses disposal of waste according to infection control standards.Performs basic health coaching and patient education as per evidence‑based guidelines.Conducts QA checks on equipment and maintains logs.Demonstrates correct utilization of electronic health information systems.Answers general inquiries by nursing staff, provider staff, other departments, visitors, and patients in a friendly manner.Makes confirmation calls to patients as needed.

Other Functions:Provides cross‑coverage for peers and assists clinics in ensuring efficient patient flow.Attends and participates in staff meetings and applies information presented therein.Participates in unit goal setting and initiates discussion regarding departmental issues.Complies with dress code and directs unresolved problems to a manager for resolution.Addresses employee concerns consistent with policy.Performs other duties as assigned.
