Overview
Join our dynamic team as a Construction Materials Testing Technician and play a vital role in ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of construction projects. In this energetic position, you will perform a variety of laboratory and field tests on construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, soil, and masonry to verify they meet industry standards and project specifications. Your technical proficiency and attention to detail will help maintain high-quality construction practices while supporting project timelines. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors on active construction sites, applying your construction inspection expertise and contributing to the successful completion of projects.

Duties

  • Perform field inspections and sampling during construction activities to verify material compliance with project specifications for construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, soil, and masonry.
  • Collect and record data related to material properties.
  • Assist in quality control processes by inspecting concrete forms and reinforcing steel, sampling and testing fresh concrete, testing asphalt and soil for compaction, and other materials used on-site.
  • Communicate findings clearly to project managers, contractors, and clients to support quality assurance efforts.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of tests performed, results obtained, and inspection reports for project records.
  • Support construction site activities by ensuring adherence to safety protocols while conducting outdoor testing and inspections.
  • Conduct laboratory testing of construction materials.
  • Operate company vehicles and equipment is a safe manner.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with ASTM and TxDOT standards for concrete, soil, asphalt, and other construction materials testing procedures.
  • Previous construction site experience with a focus on inspection or quality control roles.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes including concrete forming, masonry work, asphalt paving, and soil preparation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for report writing and data management.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic math calculations accurately for analysis purposes.
  • Excellent communication skills for client interaction and teamwork within a fast-paced environment, as well as strong communication skills with supervisors to ensure priorities and deadlines are being met.
  • Outdoor work experience in various weather conditions is highly desirable to ensure safety and efficiency during field inspections.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols.

The functions of this position will regularly require the employee to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee will regularly be required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds (with or without assistance from others). The work environment for this position includes potential exposure to noise, fumes, dust, vibration, and chemicals which require the employee utilize appropriate personal protective equipment and follow safety procedures. At times the work environment will be loud. This position requires daily procedures that rely on tactile competence and dexterity as well as vision abilities to include close vision, color vision, and focus vision.
