Job summary

WSB is seeking a CMT Technician to join our Tampa, FL field team. You will perform field tests, collect samples, and prepare reports, working closely with Engineering staff on heavy highway construction projects.

This on-site role requires outdoor work in varying weather and travel within the territory. Applicants should have at least 1 year of FDOT field technician experience, a High School Diploma or equivalent, and the ability to work nights or weekends when deadlines demand.

Responsibilities

• Perform field tests according to prescribed procedures and standards.
• Collect soil and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports.
• Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare reports and technical data.
• Operate computer systems and peripheral equipment; maintain results log.
• Set up, maintain, and calibrate equipment.
• Confer with Engineering staff on test efforts.
• Inspect construction activities on heavy highway construction projects.
• Monitor work performed by contractors or vendors.
• Ensure materials used on projects meet specifications.
• Inspect excavation and topsoil handling and related activities.
• Complete forms and paperwork for daily activities.
• Maintain contact with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

What You Will Do

• Perform field tests according to prescribed procedures and standards.
• Collect soil and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports.
• Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare reports and technical data.
• Operate computer systems and peripheral equipment; maintain results log.
• Set up, maintain, and calibrate equipment.
• Confer with Engineering staff on test efforts.
• Inspect construction activities on heavy highway construction projects.
• Monitor work performed by contractors or vendors.
• Ensure materials used on projects meet specifications.
• Inspect common, unclassified and roadway excavation, embankment, borrow pits, and removal, storage, and placement of topsoil.
• Complete appropriate forms and paperwork for construction activities completed each day.
• Maintain considerable contact with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Work with other task team members and leaders.
• Moves a case weighing up to 95 pounds.
• Pushes up to 250 pounds in a wheelbarrow.
• Remains in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Operates tools requiring fine motor skills.
• Traverses' construction sites having uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches.
• Positions self to access tools and materials in various locations.
• Conducts visual assessments of construction quality and safety.

What You Will Bring

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Field assignments may require travel and/or work to be performed on site.
• Ability to work nights and weekends.
• Operatestools requiring fine motor skills.
• 1+ years of FDOT field technician experience required
• ACI Level 1, FDOT 346, and Earthworks Level 1 certifications preferred
• Moves materials weighing up to 75 pounds periodically.
• Traverses'construction sites having uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches.Conducts visual assessments of task quality and job site safety.
• Positions selfto access tools and materials in various locations.
• Ascends/descends into job site areas to complete inspections and data collection.
• May remain in stationary position for extended periods.
• Primarily field-based role must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Full‑time position with standard business hours; occasional night work or overtime may be required based on project deadlines.
• Must be able to work onsite at a WSB office, as needed, as required by the project, client, or hiring manager.
• Reliable transportation required and the ability to travel daily within assigned territory.
• Travel may be required.
