What you will do

The Construction Project Manager is part of our Building Solutions North America business at Johnson Controls. Lead large, complex, multi-million dollar Controls construction projects throughout the U.S. This is a U.S.-based remote position and will require travel to customer sites as needed, potentially up to 50% or more.

Under general direction, responsible for the profitable execution of assigned projects. Collaborate with owner and contractor sales managers, branch installation managers, and teams to support early-stage sales activities, including strategy, vendor/partner selection, scope enhancements, value engineering, and risk assessment. Ensure projects are completed accurately, on time, within budget, and within scope. Maintain positive cash flow and actively pursue change orders. Ensure work complies with legal requirements and safety standards, adhering to Johnson Controls' procedures and processes, balancing customer satisfaction with financial results.

How you will do it
  • Act as the primary on-site leader for execution teams, developing and implementing project schedules.
  • Evaluate contractual scope and impact of changes, pursuing additional work through change orders, cost estimates, proposals, and negotiations.
  • Manage project costs, billings, collections, and profitability, ensuring timely and accurate billing.
  • Review and interpret contract terms and conditions.
  • Analyze financial and project data to address potential issues proactively, using tools like Microsoft Project.
  • Manage risks and establish recovery plans when needed, resolving disputes with minimal critical issues.
  • Negotiate and issue subcontracts, ensuring project document controls comply with contract and standards.
  • Oversee construction for compliance with specifications and codes.
  • Manage procurement schedules and develop long-term relationships with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate resources with internal teams and ensure engineering and commissioning meet standards.
  • Assist in project development, customer training, and may collaborate with or direct field teams for Mechanical projects.
What we look for
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, or an Associate's Degree with equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of eight years of direct project management experience in the building construction industry.
  • Experience with Mechanical Retrofits, HVAC controls, BAS, Fire, and Security systems is desirable.
  • PMI/PMP certification expected within two years of employment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical material to non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in project management software, MS Office, Adobe Writer, Visio, and Windows environment.
  • Willingness to travel as required by project needs, including outside the assigned geography.
  • Ability to handle complex projects involving multiple subcontractors and scopes, with experience managing diverse challenges.
