Job summary

Trace-A-Matic South in Houston, TX is hiring a 2nd Shift Inspector/CMM Operator. The role requires hands-on precision dimensional inspection using CMMs with PC-DMIS, reading GD&T, and ensuring products meet design intent.

You will perform first piece, in-process, and final inspections, document results, generate reports, and work with machinists and engineers to drive quality improvements. A background in machining methods and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Background in precision dimensional inspection using CMMs with PC-DMIS.
• Ability to read GD&T and capture design intent.
• Knowledge of machining methods.
• Ability to use hand inspection tools to verify CMM results.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct first piece inspections per FP inspection procedures and work instructions, including CMM and hand-tool methods.
• Conduct receiving inspections in accordance with procedures and instructions.
• Conduct final inspections per procedures and instructions.
• Conduct in-process inspections when directed.
• Report inspection results to machinists and plant supervision; initiate NCRs for out-of-tolerance conditions.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing operations with team lead and interfacing personnel.
• Analyze inspection data and suggest improvements to job concerns.
• Interface with customers regarding measurement systems and inspection methods.
• Create accurate inspection reports as required.
• Set up inspection gauges as requested.

Position Overview

The Inspector/CMM Operator must have a background in precision dimensional inspection using CMMs fitted with PC-DMIS software.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

The main function of the Inspector/CMM Operator will be product inspection. In-process, first piece and final inspection using traditional metrology and/or CMM. Specific responsibilities will include the following:

• Conduct first piece inspections when requested by manufacturing personnel. This inspection will take place in accordance with Trace-A-Matic’s First Piece Inspection procedures and work instructions. These inspections can include both CMM and hand-tool inspections.
• Conduct receiving inspection functions in accordance with Trace-A-Matic’s Receiving Inspection procedure and work instructions. These inspections can include both CMM and hand-tool inspections in addition to document review.
• Conduct final inspection functions in accordance with Trace-A-Matic’s Final Inspection procedure and work instructions. These inspections can include both CMM and hand-tool inspections in addition to document review.
• Conduct in-process inspections when directed. These inspections can include both CMM and hand-tool inspections.
• Report results of all inspections to machinists and plant supervision. Initiate NCRs for out-of-tolerance conditions.
• Working with Team Lead, troubleshoot manufacturing operations performed by interfacing with machinists, inspectors, supervisors, and programmers;
• Analyze inspection data when requested and give input to possible solutions to job concerns.
• Interface with customers, when necessary, concerning measurement systems and inspection methods;
• Create accurate inspection reports as required.
• Set up inspection gages when requested.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• The Inspector/CMM Operator must have a background in precision dimensional inspection using CMMs fitted with PC-DMIS software.
• The ability to understand PC-DMIS programs that capture design intent, including applicable GD&T, is essential.
• Knowledge of machining methods is important.
• Must be able to use a variety of hand inspection tools to conduct inspections and verify CMM results.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must.
