This role focuses heavily on operating and programming Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to verify part dimensions, ensuring alignment with strict engineering specifications. This position reports directly to the Quality Manager and has no direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education & Experience: Associate’s Degree from a two-year college or technical school, or 3+ years of equivalent work experience and/or training.
  • Professional Certifications: ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is highly preferred.
  • Quality Standards & Systems: Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 with practical experience performing internal audits. Experience utilizing QT9 QMS software is highly preferred.
  • Blueprint Reading: Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting complex part drawings, process specifications, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) symbols.
  • Mathematics: Solid understanding of mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and the fundamentals of plane/solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Software & Tools: Experience utilizing Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Teams, Word) and modern Quality Management System (QMS) software platform applications.

CMM SPECIALIZATION & SKILLS

  • CMM Programming: Strong preference for candidates with a proven track record of writing and editing new CMM programs from 3D CAD models and blueprints, rather than just operating them.
  • Equipment Preference: Hands-on experience with Zeiss CMM hardware and Zeiss software ecosystems is highly preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Dimensional Inspection: Measure complex parts using surface plate layouts, traditional hand tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators), and Zeiss CMM programs.
  • QMS Documentation: Log and track corrective actions, non-conformances, and calibration events within the QT9 QMS platform.
  • Calibration & M&TE: Maintain basic calibration knowledge. Select appropriate Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE) tools for various tasks, assess tool accuracy, and ensure standards traceability.
  • Drawing Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, demonstrating clear understanding of critical, major, and minor part characteristics.
  • Non-Conforming Material: Identify, report, and isolate non-conforming materials. Initiate resolutions when inspection errors or part deviations occur.
  • CAPA & Auditing: Apply elements of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), including root cause analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and internal quality audits.
  • Traceability: Understand and maintain complete product, material, and calibration traceability across all inspection stages using spreadsheet and word processing documentation.
  • Sampling Plans: Apply basic inspection and testing techniques, including various standardized sampling plans.
