You will translate complex engineering requirements into robust inspection programs, collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing, and help shape inspection strategy and quality outcomes in a growing aerospace environment.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of CMM programming experience or equivalent training.
  • Ability to use ERP systems, Microsoft Office, CAD (SolidWorks) and CAM (Calypso).
  • Ability to read and interpret ASME Y14.5 drawings and setup sheets.
  • Strong math skills including geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and communicate clearly with teams.
  • Able to work safely in a high-precision manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze drawings and data to determine measurement configurations and CMM tool selections.
  • Define CMM paths and write programs in Zeiss Calypso; verify accuracy and cycle times.
  • Create setup sheets aligning geometry from CMM to workpieces.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Setup, and Shop personnel to resolve issues.
  • Work independently within a team to plan inspection activities and ensure quality.

POSITION TITLE:

PROGRAMMER, CMM

POSITION SUMMARY:

Plans activities regarding inspection, application of CMM programs, CMM tools, fixtures and probes as necessary. Also responsible for leading and coordinating inspection plans uses CMM software to create tool paths, tool lists, and setup instructions for use on CMM equipment. Maintains legacy programs and new ones or modify tooling requirements if tooling becomes obsolete.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Analyzes drawing, solid model, sketches, and design data of part to determine configuration of measurements, selection of CMM tools, according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities.
  • Determines reference points and direction of CMM paths. Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, then outlines sequence to determine conformity.
  • Writes Setup Sheets to show alignment of geometry from CMM to physical workpiece.
  • Writes program of CMM in Zeiss Calypso. Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions. Observes operation of machine on run to prove programmed instructions and verifies cycle times.
  • Communicates with machine operators, setup personnel, Engineering personnel, Shop supervisor to receive instructions, coordinate activities and resolve issues. Specifically, works closely with Engineering Department in creating the programs.
  • Works independently, but as part of a team, with minimal oversight.
  • Attends work in person, on time, on a regular and reliable basis.
  • Completes all tasks in an accurate, complete and timely manner. Is detail oriented.
  • Follows directions. Asks questions to clarify if needs more information.
  • Follows all safety protocols, helps others follow all safety protocols and alerts their supervisor or management to any safety risks that are discovered.
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Training and Experience: 2 or more years of CMM programming, trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship.
  • Computer Skills: Ability to enter and retrieve data from computer using company ERP system, Microsoft Office, CAD software such as SolidWorks, and CAM software such as Calypso, etc.
  • Reading and Comprehension: Ability to interpret and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings ASME Y14.5, set up sheets, and process sheets. Ability to write routine reports.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Ability to interpret graphs. Good working knowledge of shop math, including trig and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Physical Demands: The employee is required to:
    • sit for extended periods of time
    • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor
    • exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
    • exert 10 to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
    • exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to read or otherwise obtain information from blueprints, computer screens, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Communication: Ability to understand and be understood in communications with others. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, workers and management, both in written and oral form.
  • Working Conditions: the employee is subject to:
    • high noise levels from operating machines
    • physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
    • breathing fumes, dust and mist
    • skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid
    • may perform repetitive motions
    • flexible hours

Estimated salary for this position: $70,000-$75,000, based on experience. Experience and/or education factors may increase or decrease this range. Benefits include Medical, dental, 401(k), PTO, and performance bonus potential.

Day Shift: $25-35/hr. based on experience.
