Vantedge Medical, with two local sites in CT, seeks an experienced CMM Programmer to develop, implement, and optimize inspection programs ensuring precise, repeatable measurements for medical components.

You will translate engineering drawings and GD&T into robust inspection plans, support FAI and PPAP activities, and mentor technicians while maintaining calibration and metrology practices across facilities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on CMM programming on a modern platform.
  • Deep knowledge of automated metrology sensor hardware including tactile scanning probes, vision/camera systems, laser & structured lighting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, program, validate, and optimize CMM inspection routines using CAD models, drawings, GD&T, and specifications.
  • Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) and support PPAP dimensional data requirements for new and revised parts.
  • Develop and validate inspection fixtures and measurement methods for accurate, repeatable CMM inspection.
  • Manage dimensional measurement data for statistical analysis, capability studies, and quality reporting.
  • Support NPI by developing measurement strategies and inspection plans early in the product development cycle.
  • Troubleshoot dimensional and measurement issues and partner with Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, and Design Engineering to identify root cause and corrective actions.
  • Maintain and continuously improve existing CMM programs for accuracy, efficiency, and repeatability.
  • Mentor CMM operators and junior technicians on programming, GD&T, and measurement best practices.
  • Maintain CMM calibration, stylus qualification, and metrology lab practices to ensure measurement system reliability.

About this Opportunity:

The CMM Programmer is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing CMM inspection programs that support production, NPI, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role ensures accurate, repeatable, and efficient measurement of precision components by translating engineering requirements, GD&T, and product specifications into robust inspection strategies and programs. The CMM Programmer works closely with Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, Design Engineering, and Production across two local sites to establish effective inspection processes, resolve measurement challenges, and drive consistency and standardization in dimensional inspection

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and validate inspection fixtures and measurement methods for accurate, repeatable CMM inspection.
  • Manage dimensional measurement data for statistical analysis, capability studies, and quality reporting.
  • Support NPI by developing measurement strategies and inspection plans early in the product development cycle.

Requirements
  • 5+ years of hands‑on CMM programming on a modern platform
  • Deep knowledge of automated metrology sensor hardware including tactile scanning probes, vision / camera systems, laser & structured lighting (white light).
  • Strong, demonstrated command of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and CAD solid models, 3d surfaces, wireframe geometries
  • Experience validating inspection fixtures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-site, cross-functional collaboration
  • Willingness and ability to travel between 2 local facilities
  • Familiarity with PPAP/APQP style first article inspection documentation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Zeiss CALYPSO software
  • Experience with additional CMM/metrology platforms (OGP, Nikon, Alicona)
  • Experience mentoring or training CMM operators
