Job summary

Randstad USA in Bridgeport, CT is seeking a Quality Engineer to lead shop-floor quality operations for high-precision tooling and aerospace/defense contract work. You’ll own in-process and final inspections, serve as the GD&T expert, and ensure AS9100 and ISO 9001 compliance.

You will program and run a CMM (Calypso) and manage calibration, CAPA coordination, and internal audits. The role requires 5 years in QA, attention to sub-micron tolerances, and collaboration with CNC machinists and QA

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in quality engineering on precision machining.
  • Experience level: Experienced, able to lead QA activities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day in-process and final inspection workflows balancing schedules with sub-micron precision standards.
  • Perform complex dimensional, GD&T, and visual inspections using CMMs, optical comparators, and micro-tools.
  • Interpret blueprints and GD&T callouts to validate part conformity.
  • Lead CAPAs via root-cause analysis (5-Why, 8D) with engineering and shop teams.
  • Ensure ISO 9001 and AS9100 compliance; represent metrology during audits.
  • Manage calibration schedules for all measuring instruments with NIST traceability.
  • Collaborate with jig grinding, CNC machinists to troubleshoot and improve processes.
  • Program CMMs to create custom parts using Calypso.
  • Prepare and sign First Article Inspection reports (AS9102) for initial runs.

Are you a master of ultra-precision metrology who thrives in a zero-tolerance environment? We are seeking a Quality Engineer to oversee shop-floor quality operations for high-precision machine tools, jig grinding, and aerospace/defense contract manufacturing. In this role, you will lead daily in-process and final inspections, serve as the technical authority on complex GD&T, and ensure unwavering compliance with AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards. ***Ability to program and run a CMM a MUST HAVE***

salary: $72,000 - $87,000 per year

Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day in-process and final inspection workflows, balancing production schedules with rigorous sub-micron precision standards.
  • Execute complex dimensional, geometric, and visual inspections of critical aerospace/defense components using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), optical comparators, and micro-precision hand tools.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, models, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) callouts to validate part conformity.
  • Identify, document, and quarantine non-conforming materials. Lead root-cause analysis (e.g., 5-Why, 8D) and coordinate Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) with engineering and shop floor teams.
  • Ensure daily quality practices strictly align with ISO 9001, AS9100, and defense-industry regulatory standards, representing the metrology department during internal and external audits.
  • Manage the calibration schedule for all measuring instruments, gages, and testing equipment, maintaining full traceability to national standards (NIST).
  • Collaborate directly with jig grinding specialists, CNC machinists, and engineers to troubleshoot machining anomalies and refine manufacturing processes before non-conformances occur.
  • Program CMM to create custom parts, using Calypso
  • Compile, review, and sign off on First Article Inspection reports (AS9102 compliant) for initial production runs and modified precision customer components.
