Job summary

G.S. Precision, Inc. in Keene, NH is seeking a CMM Operator to perform dimensional inspections on precision aerospace components. You will set up and run CMMs, verify conformance to drawings and GD&T, and help maintain ISO 9001:2015, AS9100 compliant processes.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The CMM Operator is responsible for operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to perform dimensional inspections on precision components and assemblies in support of manufacturing and quality objectives. This position executes established CMM programs, verifies product conformance, records inspection results, and identifies nonconforming conditions. The CMM Operator works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality to ensure products meet engineering drawings, customer specifications, and quality standards.

This role is critical in supporting in-process, first article, and final inspections while maintaining compliance with ISO 9001:2015, AS9100, AS13000, customer requirements, and internal quality procedures.

Key Responsibilities
CMM Operation
  • Set up and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) using approved inspection programs.
  • Perform in-process, first article, and final dimensional inspections of components and assemblies.
  • Load and secure parts using appropriate fixtures and establish proper alignments for inspection.
  • Verify program selection, probe qualification, and machine readiness prior to inspection.
  • Monitor inspection cycles and ensure accurate measurement results.
  • Notify the CMM Programmer or Quality team of program errors, equipment issues, or measurement discrepancies.
Inspection & Quality Verification
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and GD&T to understand inspection requirements.
  • Compare inspection results to engineering and customer requirements.
  • Accurately record measurement data and inspection results.
  • Identify and report nonconforming products or dimensional issues promptly.
  • Segregate and document nonconforming material according to established procedures.
  • Perform visual inspections as required to support dimensional verification.
Equipment & Documentation
  • Perform daily CMM startup, shutdown, and verification procedures.
  • Ensure CMM equipment, probes, fixtures, and accessories are maintained in proper working condition.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or calibration concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and production documentation.
  • Follow document control procedures to ensure the latest revisions of programs and drawings are used.
Production Support
  • Support production by performing timely inspections to minimize delays.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality personnel to resolve inspection issues.
  • Assist with first article inspections (FAI), PPAP activities, and customer inspections as directed.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve inspection efficiency and workflow.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection area.
Compliance & Safety
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to ISO 9001, AS9100, AS13000, customer, and internal quality requirements.
  • Handle parts carefully to prevent damage during inspection.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate inspection records when requested.
Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certificate or coursework in manufacturing, machining, metrology, or quality inspection is preferred.
Experience
  • 1-3 years of experience operating Coordinate Measuring Machines in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Aerospace or precision machining experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience performing dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment.
Technical Skills
  • Ability to operate Coordinate Measuring Machines using existing inspection programs.
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, and gauges.
  • Basic computer skills for entering inspection results and reviewing reports.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, inspection plans, and manufacturing documentation.
Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with PC-DMIS or other CMM software.
  • Knowledge of aerospace quality standards including AS9100.
  • Experience supporting first article inspections and production inspection activities.
