Job summary

Atlas Fibre in Northbrook, IL is seeking an experienced CMM Programmer to support our precision metrology for aerospace-grade composites and thermosets. You will program and operate Zeiss CMMs using Calypso, develop inspection routines, verify calibration, and interpret drawings to ensure GD&T compliance.

The role requires 3+ years in CMM programming, strong GD&T knowledge, and the ability to read CAD models.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on CMM programming experience.
  • Zeiss CMM and Calypso software experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models.
  • Proven precision measurement skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Program and operate Zeiss CMM equipment using Calypso software.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain CMM inspection programs for new and existing parts.
  • Verify calibration status and ensure measurement accuracy of CMM equipment.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to create inspection routines.
  • Apply GD&T principles to ensure parts meet tolerancing requirements.
  • Document inspection results, generate detailed reports, and communicate findings to teams.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing to resolve issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

As our Parts business continues to grow, we're expanding our team and need an experienced CMM Programmer to help us maintain our reputation for excellence. Location: 3411 Woodhead Dr, Northbrook, IL 60062

What You'll Do
  • Program and operate Zeiss CMM equipment using Calypso software.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain CMM inspection programs for new and existing parts.
  • Verify calibration status and ensure measurement accuracy of CMM equipment.

  • Document inspection results, generate detailed reports, and communicate findings to engineering and production teams.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing to resolve quality issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of hands‑on CMM programming experience (required).
  • Zeiss CMM and Calypso software experience are strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models.
  • Proven precision measurement skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous inspection experience in aerospace, aviation, automotive, or composites manufacturing.
  • Bilingual skills (a plus).
  • Familiarity with advanced materials such as composites and thermosets.

Work Environment

Climate-controlled manufacturing facility with state-of-the-art CNC equipment. The role requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50lbs, and working in an environment with noise and exposure to composite dust (proper PPE provided). Some flexibility for shift coverage may be required.

Work with state-of-the-art CNC equipment supporting industries that are pushing the boundaries of materials science and engineering. You'll have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge aerospace applications while leading technical improvements and developing the skills of your team.
