Job summary

Meta seeks a Color, Material, and Finish Developer for the RL Industrial Design team. You will bring deep knowledge of industrial materials and finishes and help shape the distinctive look of our brand.

You will collaborate with manufacturing partners, manage CMF specs from concept to production, and travel as needed. This full-time role emphasizes innovative material solutions and cross-disciplinary teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years experience as a CMF Designer/Developer.
  • Ability to communicate design vision and concepts to internal teams and leadership.
  • Expert knowledge of plastics molding, metal fabrication, resins, coatings, plastics decoration, fabrics/textiles.
  • Experience with materials suppliers, manufacturing partners, and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support the industrial design team through implementation of material design specifications.
  • Establish and maintain quality standards and consistency across materials.
  • Interface with partners to research and develop proprietary materials and production techniques.
  • Lead resolution of design, prototyping and manufacturing issues during development.
  • Communicate and resolve manufacturing and prototyping challenges.
  • Manage CMF product specifications from concept to production.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel is required.

Job description

As a Color, Material, and Finish Developer on the RL Industrial Design team, you bring extensive knowledge of industrial materials and finishes as well as a passion for sourcing and developing new materials, methods and processes. You have a record of helping ship successful products in the Consumer Electronics, Wearable Technology, Fashion, or Eyewear industries and demonstrated track record of working collaboratively with cross-discipline teams and manufacturing partners. Your insights, experience and development efforts will help guide the unique style and distinctive look of our brand. This position is full-time.
CMF Developer Responsibilities:

  • Support the industrial design team through implementation of material design specifications
  • Establish and maintain quality standards and consistency across a portfolio of materials
  • Interface with industry and manufacturing partners to research and develop proprietary material combinations and new production techniques
  • Lead the resolution of design, prototyping and manufacturing issues during the development phase
  • Communicate and resolve manufacturing and prototyping challenges
  • Manage and maintain CMF product specifications for products in development from concept to production
  • Occasional domestic and international travel is a requirement for this position
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors of Industrial Design from an accredited college or university, or relevant professional experience
  • 10+ years experience working as a CMF Designer/Developer
  • Ability to communicate design vision and concepts using traditional techniques to internal teams and Leadership
  • Expert knowledge of plastic injection molding processes, metal fabrication techniques, resin development, coating technologies, plastics decoration processes, fabrics and textiles
  • Experience working directly with materials suppliers, manufacturing partners and cross-functional teams to solve complex product problems at scale
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD and digital visualization software
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
