Job Responsibilities
- Obtain vital signs and general health information for patient charts and prepare patients for examination.
- Maintain patient health records, especially regarding pain assessment and current medications.
- Ensure documentation is complete, concise, and correct.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms and medical equipment for patient visits, adhering to safety checks and HIPAA guidelines.
- Contribute to the plan of care for patients, utilizing principles to reduce medication errors.
- Demonstrate initiative in problem-solving and planning service performance.
- Triages patients and accurately enters data into the EMR, ensuring clarity and proper spelling.
- Navigates the EMR system efficiently.
- Facilitates quality care management through best practices in EMR utilization.
- Promotes continuity of care with appropriate notes and follow-up.
- Answers phones, routes calls, and takes accurate messages.
- Responds with urgency to patient distress levels.
- Manages patient appointment scheduling, registers new patients, and maintains demographic and insurance data in compliance with policies.
- Identifies barriers related to Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and notifies providers.
- Verifies insurance eligibility and scans insurance cards.
- Checks patients in and out appropriately, using ICD-10 and CPT codes correctly.
- Processes referrals and monitors follow-up actions, ensuring patient compliance and receipt of test results.
- Forwards medical record requests to Health Information Management.
- Recognizes the importance of fraud prevention and ensures correct order entry for billing.
- Refills medications per guidelines.
- Identifies barriers related to patient's individual needs, including financial, emotional, physical, cultural, or spiritual aspects.
- Provides excellent customer service, demonstrating strong people skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice for the CMA/RMA or LPN/licensed personnel.
Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited program for Certified Medical Assistants, Registered Medical Assistants, or licensed LPN, NC Paramedic, or AEMT. Prefer at least one year of clinical experience in a physician office setting.
Physical Requirements
Ability to access all facility areas; communicate clearly; maintain visual and hearing acuity; withstand prolonged walking, standing, sitting; and perform occasional lifting, bending, and stooping.
