Primary Purpose

Assist physicians and/or Advanced Care Practitioners (ACP) with patient care, intake, documentation, medication administration, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Support appointment scheduling and medical record maintenance.

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide care for diverse patient populations, as relevant to the office setting.
  • Pre-visit planning with the care team.
  • Assist with patient intake, rooming, and medication administration.
  • Check vital signs, height, and weight.
  • Review and update medication histories.
  • Assist with health maintenance requirements.
  • Perform Point of Care testing (POCT) per orders.
  • Follow safety and regulatory standards, including OSHA, CLIA, and TJC guidelines.
  • Report patient conditions and reactions to procedures or treatments.
  • Handle patient inquiries regarding prescriptions, appointments, and referrals.
  • Document care electronically as directed.
  • Perform waived laboratory tests and maintain lab equipment.
  • Perform venipuncture and collect specimens as needed.
  • Monitor inventory and medications.
  • Track and log laboratory and diagnostic tests, ensuring results are available to providers.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current AHA BLS certification.

Must possess one of the following:

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Intermediate EMT or Paramedic training with 3 years clinical experience.
  • Structured military clinical training per DD214.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • 3 years of on-the-job training with competency assessment.

Certification / License

Certified as CMA or RMA by recognized organizations such as AAMA, NHA, ARMA, AMT, NAHP, or NRMA.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Require walking, standing, sitting, lifting (up to 35 pounds), reaching, bending, and exposure to communicable diseases. Must have good senses and manual dexterity.

Preferred Job Requirements

National Certification from Medical Assistants or equivalent.
