Overview

Primary Purpose

Responsible for assisting the physician and/or Advanced Care Practitioner (ACP) with patient care, patient intake at office visit, documentation, vaccine and medication administration, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Assists with appointment scheduling and maintaining medical records.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric populations, as pertinent to the scope of the specialty of the office setting.
  2. Pre-visit planning with provider and care team.
  3. Follows the patient intake/rooming procedures at the practice.
  4. May include medication administration, including injections.
  5. Check vital signs, height, and weight.
  6. Assist with reviewing medication history and updating medication list.
  7. Assist with health maintenance requirements.
  8. Perform Point of Care testing (POCT) per orders.
  9. Utilize standard precautions; comply with CHS Policies, OSHA standards, CLIA regulations, TJC, DFS, and other regulatory standards.
  10. Report patient's condition and reactions following procedures or treatments.
  11. Assist with patient inquiries regarding prescriptions, appointments, and referrals.
  12. Participate in electronic documentation of care as directed.
  13. Complete CLIA waived laboratory tests and diagnostic testing adhering to standards. Perform quality control and maintenance for in-office lab procedures.
  14. Perform venipuncture and assist with specimen collection as needed.
  15. Monitor inventory and stock medications, narcotics, and emergency supplies.
  16. Ensure all tests are tracked and results are presented to the provider.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Current AHA BLS certification.

Must Possess One Of The Following
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Intermediate EMT or Paramedic Program with 3 years clinical experience.
  • Structured military training with clinical components per DD214.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
  • 3 years on-the-job training with approved competency assessment.
Certification / License

Recognized/certified as a CMA or RMA by one of the following organizations: AAMA, NHA, NHCWA, NCCT, ARMA, AMT, NAHP, NRMA.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must lift up to 35 pounds. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Must speak, read, and write fluent English. Good senses of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and manual dexterity.

Preferred Job Requirements

National Certification Medical Association.
