Job Summary
Assists physicians and advanced clinical practitioners with patient care, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. May assist with administrative duties including scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding for insurance purposes. Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize the benefit from the practice service.
Essential Functions
• Exemplify caring and compassionate customer service to create an excellent patient experience
• Provide exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to interact with patients and families in sensitive situations
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills and decisive judgment in a busy environment, working both independently and as part of a team
• Interview and record patients' medical information and measure vital signs
• Update health maintenance records, medication changes, and allergy information at each visit
• Utilize standard precautions and comply with policies and regulatory standards
• Complete CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests and diagnostic testing adhering to standards
• Conduct Point of Care testing (POCT) per orders, performing Quality Control and maintenance
• Develop and implement treatment plans
• Lead and train lower-level staff
• Collect, prepare, and log laboratory specimens
• Track and log laboratory and diagnostic test results
• Function as an EMR super user
• Complete annual in-service, education, and training
• Complete annual unit-based projects
Education, Experience, and Certifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. BLS certification required and must be maintained. Recognized/certified as a CMA or RMA by a national organization such as AAMA, NHA, NHCWA, NCCT, AMT, NAHP, or NRMA. Candidates must have:
A. At least five (5) years of experience as a CMA/RMA post-certification
B. Ability to qualify as CMA II by passing the SCMA exam if less than five years of experience
C. Good standing within the department, with a performance rating of meets/exceeds expectations and no CFIP within six months.
