Job Description
The Certified Medical Assistant I provides medical assistance under the supervision of the physician, physician's assistant, or nursing staff.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities
- Assists with patient care by completing screening questions, medication reviews, obtaining vital signs, and recording height, weight, and other patient data as required.
- Prepares exam space for scheduled procedures.
- Documents all care provided in the electronic medical record.
- Delivers care appropriate for the patient’s age and development.
- Ensures exam rooms, supply rooms and other areas of the clinic are clean and well stocked.
- Cleans equipment according to instructions for use and ensures equipment has current safety inspection dates.
- Assists with scheduling appointments, completes electronic patient messages, medication refill requests and patient forms.
- Collects lab specimens as directed.
- Administers approved medications as directed.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Current certification from a national registry as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
- Certification in Non-Aggressive Crisis Management; must be obtained while in department orientation and maintained throughout employment when working within the Behavioral Health Department.
- Certified Medical Assistant I: 0 -1.99 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
- Certification in Non-Aggressive Crisis Management; must be obtained while in department orientation and maintained throughout employment when working within the Behavioral Health setting.
