Job summary

The Whitaker Clinic laboratory at UAB Medicine seeks a Certified Medical Assistant to support phlebotomy, injections and clinical procedures in an outpatient setting.

You'll collaborate with nurses and providers to maintain smooth patient flow, handle basic clerical and lab duties, and provide compassionate care from newborns to seniors.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification required.
• If certified by another agency, AAMA or NHA certification must be obtained within six months.
• Current CPR certification required or must be obtained within 30 days.

Job Highlights

The laboratory at the Whitaker Clinic combines laboratory services with direct clinical support in a multidisciplinary outpatient setting. You’ll work with a team that performs phlebotomy, injections, and a variety of clinical laboratory procedures while partnering closely with nurses and providers to support efficient patient flow. Job Description

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, to perform clinical procedures to prepare patients and/or research participants for treatment or research protocol. To assist physician or other healthcare team member with completion of treatment/protocol. To perform simple, non-invasive patient procedures according to applicable policy and/or protocol. May perform various clerical and/or lab duties as requested. Responds to the unique needs of all patients ages newborn through geriatric. All candidates for this position must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required. Currently certified as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) required. If certified by another accrediting agency, AAMA or NHA certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
