Job description

Directs/manages overall daily operations of the Club, with the primary concern for programs and member participation/development. Duties also include, but are not limited to, staff supervision and training, facilities management, membership administration and community and parent relations.

KEY ROLES:

Organization Responsibilities

  • Positively promote the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Big Bend through, but not limited to: talking to potential members, current members, parents, community members, schools, and any form of media.
  • Participate in training sessions offered to develop knowledge of educational resources and techniques, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the Big Bend.
  • Communicate with and support the Administrative and Executive Offices to continually enhance the level of services provided by the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Big Bend.
  • Follow organizational process to have needs or concerns addressed.
  • Promote understanding and acceptance of diversity with students, members, staff, and the community.
  • Create exciting learning opportunities for all members who participate in the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Big Bend and opportunities to demonstrate positive personal and social success.
  • Encourage member participation through enjoyment, challenge, and communication.
  • Maintains clear job responsibilities and roles for all staff.
  • Periodically review all staff performance and skills
  • Supervises care and maintenance of community learning center, equipment, and property.
  • Facilitates communication between staff, members, parents, school, and community, which creates an environment of help, support, professionalism, and trust.
  • Maintains proper student to staff ratio.
  • Authorizes arrangements for special activities with staff and parents.
  • Interacts and communicates with other Directors during weekly meetings and gatherings to share ideas and ways to improve Club services.
  • Coordinates, facilitates, and supervises all extra-curricular events.
  • Assist members in identifying personal goals to be accomplished through participating in the Boys and Girls Club
  • Responsible for the inventory of supplies, hardware, and software at the Club and ensures it remains on site and in good condition.
  • Establishes program objectives and activities/services to prepare youth for success to create a Club environment which facilitates the Youth Development Strategy.
  • Promotes the safety of members and quality of programs at all times.
  • Demonstrates leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members.
  • Plans, develops and evaluates overall programs to ensure they meet program objectives and the goals of the Youth Development Strategy.
  • Ensures administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the physical properties and equipment of the Club. Ensures compliance with organizational policies.
  • Responsible for submitting assigned and requested documents in a timely manner.
  • Allocates, monitors, and evaluates work assigned to program staff and volunteers, and provides ongoing feedback for professional development. Ensures staff understanding and use of program standards and youth development strategy.
  • Maintains close daily contact with staff, volunteers, students, and parents to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines, instruct and advise program objectives.
  • Completes tasks as assigned by the Operations Supervisor.
Supervision Responsibilities
  • Communicate with all staff to establish and enforce Club Norms and Expectations that all members and staff follow.
  • Confront and de-escalate all negative and/or inappropriate behavior exhibited by members, staff, and visitors.
  • Provide neutralization to all members to allow them to continue to participate in programs and activities.
  • Investigate and communicate all staff and member concerns and behaviors with the Club Director and collect all required documentation.
  • Maintain visual awareness of all members at the beginning, throughout, and at the end of all program and activities each day.
Evaluation Responsibilities
  • Work with staff and members in evaluating performance and progress towards personal and program goals.
  • Work with the staff in completing Club Monthly Activity Report.
  • Provide an on-going assessment and of program functioning that ensures quality implementation and success in:
  • improving students’ mastery of academic skills enabling them to meet and/or exceed state academic standards through individualized, academic assistance;
  • reducing juvenile risk-taking behaviors and promoting healthy lifestyles through quality, fun after-school and summer programs; and
  • strengthening families through increased parental participation in their child’s academics and social success, and through extended learning programs addressing adult needs.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of two years management, program, or supervisory experience.

  • Strong commitment to youth and families and a strong belief in their potential.
