Club Baseball Head Coach

Job Summary: The Head Coach is responsible for training and development of the Baseball Sport Club program at the University of San Francisco (USF), with the goal of increasing participation on campus and improving competitive performance through regional competition.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Deliver a sport‑specific training program.
• Develop a sport‑specific plan including all practice sessions and matches.
• Manage the team at all club functions.
• Select team members for all matches and tournaments.
• Schedule all practices and matches through the Recreation Manager.
• Maintain inventory of equipment necessary for the sport.
• Act as liaison between team participants and the Recreation Manager.
• Interpret and apply rules and regulations of the sport governing body.
• Maintain required certifications as mandated by the governing body.
• Comply with industry standards for safety and participation.
• Transport participants to and from away matches and tournaments.
• Know concussion management, CPR and First Aid.
• Create a productive learning environment that promotes growth of individuals and the club.

Job Activities to Include

• Coach participants throughout the academic year and assist with events and competitions.
• Distribute team information, posters, and leaflets to participants.
• Ensure participants operate within the sport and USF rules both on‑campus and away.
• Collect and file match/tournament records in the club database.
• Attend club events and meetings as required.
• Maintain updated waivers, memberships and insurance forms with the RSD.
• Adhere to all procedures and quality standards for delivery, management and administration of USF Club Sports.
• Perform any other duties directed by the Recreation Manager and approved by the Director of the RSD.

Working Hours

Hours may vary due to practice time, facility availability, matches, tournaments, travel or extra training sessions.

Decision Making / Influence

Plan and organize all club functions, including training sessions and selection of players for match/tournament days.

Player Selection Criteria

• A current USF student in good standing with the University and the sport governing body.
• Minimum of two weeks of sport specific conditioning.
• Practiced a minimum of two days during the week that the match/tournament is scheduled.
• Skill level meets or exceeds match participation requirements.

Constraints

• Adhere to general health and safety standards pertaining to the sport.
• Report concerns to the Recreation Manager on a daily basis when necessary.
• Attendance at all practice sessions, matches and tournaments is required.

Records and Reports

Compile monthly reports and records of results, entries, etc. Maintain all files and communicate with the Recreation Manager.
