Job summary

Methodist Hospital Texsan in San Antonio, part of Methodist Healthcare System, is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist III. The role conducts complex laboratory testing, ensures accuracy of results, maintains instruments, and supervises quality control programs within regulatory standards.

The CLS III will support high‑level lab operations, lead special projects, and ensure timely, accurate data for patient diagnosis and treatment.

Qualifications

• Associates degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 5 years of experience in Clinical Laboratory setting required.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen processing and testing independently for moderate and high complexity tests.
• Evaluates need for new methods and instrumentation and informs management.
• Ensures compliance with accrediting agencies and serves as a resource within and outside the department.
• Manages assigned projects with planning, resources, timelines, and progress reporting.
• Maintains quality control procedures, documents data, and communicates QC information to leadership.
• Performs preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment; proactive problem solving.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Clinical Laboratory Scientist III, you will be responsible for performing complex medical laboratory tests for diagnosis and treatment of disease, analyzing and assuming accountability for accurate test results, maintenance of complicated instruments, monitoring quality control and quality assurance programs, assuring compliance with regulations and standards of regulatory agencies, and managing special projects.

What you will do in this role:

• Performs specimen processing and testing independently to include moderate and high complexity testing. Analyzes test results and assumes accountability for accuracy.
• Anticipates and evaluates need for new methods, instrumentation, and technology in terms of customer need, cost benefit and revenue generation, and informs management about findings.
• Assures compliance with accrediting agencies. Acts as a resource to customers both within the department and outside the department.
• Manages assigned projects to include developing a plan, coordinating necessary resources, setting project timelines, keeping Manager informed of progress, and completing project within established time limits.
• Understands, performs, and practices quality control management to include running controls, evaluating data, documentation of data, and taking corrective action as required. Communicates any relevant QC information to Supervisor or Manager.
• Understands, performs, and practices preventive maintenance on equipment; troubleshoots and takes corrective action. Demonstrates pro‑active problem solving skills to include identifying a problem and taking appropriate action; knows when to seek guidance to complete troubleshooting protocol.

What qualifications you will need:

• Minimum Education and Experience: Associates degree required and Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• 5 years experience in Clinical Laboratory setting is require.

Minimum License and Certificates Required: One of the following certifications is required: MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(AMT), MT(AAB), CLS(NCA), MT(HEW), CLT(NCA), MLT(ASCP), or MLT(AMT) Certification is waived for those with 10 years of lab experience.
