Job summary

Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist III to perform complex medical laboratory tests for diagnosis and treatment. You will analyze results, maintain instruments, and uphold quality control standards.

You will contribute to regulatory compliance, participate in special projects, and support continuous improvement in patient care.

Qualifications

• Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 5 years experience in Clinical Laboratory setting required.
• Certification: MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(AMT), MT(AAB), CLS(NCA), MT(HEW), CLT(NCA), MLT(ASCP) or MLT(AMT); waiver after 10 years.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen processing and testing independently to include moderate and high complexity testing.
• Anticipates and evaluates need for new methods, instrumentation, and technology and informs management.
• Ensures compliance with accrediting agencies and acts as a resource to customers.
• Manages assigned projects with plans, resources, timelines, and progress updates.
• Maintains quality control by running controls, evaluating data, and documenting results.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and troubleshoots issues as needed.

Job Summary

Clinical Laboratory Scientist III, you will be responsible for performing complex medical laboratory tests for diagnosis and treatment of disease, analyzing and assuming accountability for accurate test results, maintenance of complicated instruments, monitoring quality control and quality assurance programs, assuring compliance with regulations and standards of regulatory agencies, and managing special projects.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen processing and testing independently to include moderate and high complexity testing. Analyzes test results and assumes accountability for accuracy.
• Anticipates and evaluates need for new methods, instrumentation, and technology in terms of customer need, cost benefit and revenue generation, and informs management about findings.
• Assures compliance with accrediting agencies. Acts as a resource to customers both within the department and outside the department.
• Manages assigned projects to include developing a plan, coordinating necessary resources, setting project timelines, keeping Manager informed of progress, and completing project within established time limits.
• Understands, performs, and practices quality control management to include running controls, evaluating data, documentation of data, and taking corrective action as required. Communicates any relevant QC information to Supervisor or Manager.
• Understands, performs, and practices preventive maintenance on equipment; troubleshoots and takes corrective action. Demonstrates pro‑active problem solving skills to include identifying a problem and taking appropriate action; knows when to seek guidance to complete troubleshooting protocol.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education and Experience: Associates degree required and Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• 5 years experience in Clinical Laboratory setting is required.

Minimum License and Certificates Required: One of the following certifications is required: MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(AMT), MT(AAB), CLS(NCA), MT(HEW), CLT(NCA), MLT(ASCP), or MLT(AMT). Certification is waived for those with 10 years of lab experience.
