The Opportunity

BlackHawk Data is seeking an experienced Cloudflare Engineer with strong hands-on expertise across the Cloudflare platform to support the design, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of Cloudflare solutions for our customers.

The primary focus of this role is Cloudflare. We are looking for someone who has strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience working with Cloudflare networking, security, application delivery, and Zero Trust technologies.

Beyond Cloudflare, the ideal candidate will bring broader technical experience across cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), as well as systems, networking, automation, scripting, or coding.

Make an impact. Build what matters. Grow with us.

Position Overview

The Cloudflare Engineer will serve as a technical resource for the implementation, configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization of Cloudflare solutions across customer environments.

This individual will work closely with customers, engineering, architecture, operations, and other technical teams to understand requirements, implement solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure Cloudflare technologies are effectively integrated into customers’ broader network, cloud, security, and systems environments.

The ideal candidate is a Cloudflare specialist first, but also has the technical breadth to understand how Cloudflare interacts with the broader technology stack.

Key Responsibilities

Cloudflare Engineering & Implementation

  • Design, configure, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Cloudflare solutions across customer environments

  • Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert for Cloudflare technologies

  • Implement and support Cloudflare networking, security, application delivery, and Zero Trust solutions

  • Configure and manage Cloudflare DNS, CDN, Web Application Firewall (WAF), DDoS Protection, SSL/TLS, Load Balancing, and related services

  • Implement and support Cloudflare Zero Trust technologies, including Access, Gateway, Tunnel, and Cloudflare One/SASE solutions

  • Assist with onboarding and migration of applications, domains, networks, and services to the Cloudflare platform

  • Review existing Cloudflare environments and recommend improvements related to security, performance, availability, and architecture

  • Maintain awareness of new Cloudflare products, capabilities, features, and best practices

Troubleshooting & Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, network connectivity, security policies, traffic routing, application performance, and Cloudflare services

  • Investigate technical incidents and identify root causes and appropriate resolutions

  • Work across networking, cloud, security, and systems technologies to resolve issues that extend beyond the Cloudflare platform

  • Support escalations and work directly with customers and technology partners when necessary

  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations to internal teams and customers

  • Work directly with customers to understand technical requirements and translate them into effective solutions

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, security, architecture, project management, and other internal teams

  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Participate in technical planning, implementation, testing, and customer handoff activities

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, configurations, implementation plans, and troubleshooting procedures

  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive Cloudflare deployment, configuration, and operational tasks

  • Utilize APIs, scripting, or infrastructure-as-code tools where appropriate

  • Develop or improve technical processes, documentation, and deployment standards

  • Continuously evaluate customer environments for opportunities to improve performance, security, reliability, and operational efficiency

Qualifications

Experience & Education

  • Strong hands‑on experience implementing, administering, and troubleshooting Cloudflare technologies in production environments

  • Demonstrated experience working across multiple Cloudflare products and services

  • Experience supporting enterprise networking, cybersecurity, cloud, or infrastructure environments

  • Experience working directly with customers and supporting complex technical implementations

  • MSP, VAR, professional services, or consulting experience is a strong plus

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is desirable but not required

  • Relevant Cloudflare certifications or technical training are a plus

Professional & Technical Skills

  • Strong hands‑on knowledge of Cloudflare technologies, including several of the following:

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts, including Zero Trust, web security, secure access, threat protection, and security policies

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills

  • Ability to independently investigate complex technical issues and drive them through resolution

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable working directly with customers and communicating with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders

Additional / Nice-to-Have Skills

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 90 days, you’re becoming a trusted technical resource for Cloudflare‑related projects and customer needs. You are independently handling Cloudflare configurations, implementations, troubleshooting, and technical support while developing a strong understanding of our customer environments.

Customers and internal teams know they can rely on you to take ownership of Cloudflare‑related technical challenges, troubleshoot issues through resolution, and provide knowledgeable recommendations.

Over time, you’ll also leverage your broader experience across cloud, systems, networking, security, automation, and development to help customers maximize the value of Cloudflare within their overall technology environment.
