Job summary

RDSolutions is seeking a Cloud Systems Administrator to oversee cloud architecture and operations across Azure services, including VMs, PaaS, Databricks, and security. Collaboration with developers and IT staff ensures scalable, compliant platforms that support business needs.

The role requires 5+ years in IT infrastructure with at least 3 years in cloud roles, strong Azure expertise, and experience managing MSPs and audits (ISO 27001, SOC 2).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT/CS or related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years in IT infrastructure, cloud operations, or systems administration with at least 3 years in cloud-focused roles.
  • Demonstrated experience as the technical owner or primary point of accountability for cloud infrastructure platforms.
  • Experience overseeing MSPs or third-party vendors, including governance, change approval, incident escalation, and performance management.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Azure infrastructure and services, including compute, networking, identity, storage, security controls, and selected PaaS offerings.
  • Experience supporting security, compliance, or audit activities (ISO 27001, SOC 2).
  • Ability to work independently in a small internal team while coordinating with vendors and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate technical issues into business/risk explanations.
  • Certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, CISA are a plus.
  • Familiarity with FinOps and cloud cost management is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own cloud infrastructure strategy and operational oversight including Azure VMs, networking, storage, identity, PaaS databases, Databricks workspaces.
  • Act as the primary technical owner for cloud infrastructure, ensuring reliability, security, and alignment with business needs.
  • Govern MSPs and other third-party vendors responsible for cloud operations and security; manage performance via SLAs and KPIs.
  • Define and enforce standards for vendor-managed cloud environments including architecture, security, monitoring, and change management.
  • Review, approve, and monitor vendor-led changes, incident response activities, and remediation plans to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Coordinate internal audits and third-party security audits, acting as technical POC and ensuring timely remediation.
  • Partner with Security, Compliance, and Risk teams to meet ISO 27001, SOC 2 requirements.
  • Maintain documentation for cloud architecture, configurations, procedures, and vendor responsibilities.
  • Oversee cloud cost management including budgets, forecasts, capacity planning, and optimization with vendors.
  • Oversee Help Desk and escalation for cloud incidents; ensure proper routing between internal teams and providers.
  • Evaluate new cloud services/tools and provide technical recommendations to leadership.
  • Support business growth by ensuring cloud platforms are scalable, resilient, and fit for purpose.

Job description

The Cloud Systems Administrator is responsible for overseeing the cloud architecture and systems at RDSolutions, including traditional VMs, PaaS Services, Databases, Networking, and Security. The candidate will have experience working with vendors to support infrastructure needs as required and will have a strong background in Azure Cloud Best Practices and Cost Management. This role will also drive compliance with our policies and procedures and ensure proper auditing and certification is achieved. The candidate will work closely with developers, analysts, and other IT staff to ensure appropriate setup and support of core deliverables is met.

What You'll Do:
  • Own the company's cloud infrastructure strategy and operational oversight, including Azure Virtual Machines, networking, storage, identity, PaaS databases, Databricks workspaces, and related services.
  • Act as the primary technical owner and escalation point for all cloud infrastructure, ensuring services are reliable, secure, and aligned with business needs.
  • Provide day-to-day governance and oversight of managed service providers (MSPs) and other third-party vendors responsible for cloud operations and security.
  • Define and enforce standards, policies, and expectations for vendor-managed cloud environments, including architecture, security, monitoring, and change management.
  • Review, approve, and monitor vendor-led changes, incident response activities, and remediation plans to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Manage vendor performance through service reviews, SLAs, KPIs, and regular operational reporting, driving accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate and oversee internal audits and third-party security audits, serving as the technical point of contact and ensuring timely remediation of findings.
  • Partner with Security, Compliance, and Risk teams to ensure cloud controls meet regulatory and contractual requirements (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2).
  • Maintain accurate documentation for cloud architecture, configurations, operational procedures, and vendor responsibilities.
  • Oversee cloud cost management, including budgets, forecasts, capacity planning, and cost optimization initiatives in coordination with vendors.
  • Manage or oversee the Help Desk and escalation process for cloud-related incidents, ensuring appropriate routing between internal teams and external providers.
  • Evaluate new cloud services, tools, or vendors and provide technical recommendations to leadership.
  • Support business growth initiatives by ensuring cloud platforms are scalable, resilient, and fit for purpose.

  • 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud operations, or systems administration with at least 3 years in cloud-focused roles.
  • Demonstrated experience acting as the technical owner or primary point of accountability for cloud infrastructure platforms.
  • Proven experience overseeing managed service providers (MSPs) or third-party vendors, including governance, change approval, incident escalation, and performance management.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Azure infrastructure and services, including compute, networking, identity, storage, security controls, and selected PaaS offerings.
  • Experience supporting security, compliance, or audit activities, including participation in audits such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, or similar frameworks.
  • Ability to work independently in a small internal team environment while coordinating effectively with vendors and business stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into clear business and risk-based explanations.
  • Relevant certifications are preferred:
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
    • CISA: Certified Information Security Auditor
  • Experience contributing to or supporting an Information Security Management System (ISMS) or formal IT governance program is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cloud cost management and optimization (FinOps concepts) is a plus.
