Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Specialist to support a cloud migration initiative for the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and optimizing cloud infrastructure while supporting the migration of existing on-premises applications, workloads, and databases to public cloud platforms.
This role requires strong hands‑on experience with public cloud technologies, infrastructure administration, networking, automation, security, and cloud migration.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and modify scalable cloud architectures supporting Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) environments.
- Design and maintain secure, compliant cloud environments with a focus on data protection and privacy.
- Safely migrate existing on-premises applications, workloads, and databases to public cloud platforms.
- Monitor and analyze cloud infrastructure performance and proactively identify and resolve technical issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize cloud environments for:

- Cost-effectiveness
- Design and implement controls and processes using available cloud audit and monitoring tools.
- Maintain current and comprehensive knowledge of evolving cloud products, platforms, and technologies.
- Support cloud infrastructure administration, troubleshooting, and optimization across enterprise environments.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should possess the following skills and experience:
- Strong proficiency with at least one major public cloud platform:
- Microsoft Azure
- Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Experience with automation and scripting using technologies such as:
- PowerShell
- Python
- Bash
- Strong understanding of:
- Cloud networking
- Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs)
- Firewalls
- Advanced experience with virtual machine (VM) management.
- Advanced administration experience with:
- Windows Server
- Active Directory
- Strong Linux administration knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 6+ years of hands‑on experience with AWS or Microsoft Azure.
- Previous experience working in government or regulated‑industry environments.
- Experience with Linux administration.
- Experience with VMware vSphere.
- Experience with Python and Bash scripting.
- Experience with enterprise storage technologies.
