General Dynamics IT is seeking a Cloud Engineer in Herndon, VA to design, build, and maintain cloud-native applications and platform services. You will work with AWS, IaC, and DevOps to deliver scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solutions for client missions.

The role blends software engineering, cloud platform engineering, and operational troubleshooting, collaborating with Agile teams to meet enterprise standards and governance requirements.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying cloud-native applications and services.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Python, Java, C++, or Ruby.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services including S3, RDS, EC2, ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, and CloudFormation.
• Practical experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code using CloudFormation or similar.
• Strong understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated builds.
• Experience with Docker and Ansible for containerization and automation.
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design and web-service architectures.
• Experience troubleshooting cloud infrastructure, deployments, and performance issues.
• Experience working in Agile Scrum environments and collaborating with stakeholders.

The Cloud Software Engineer serves as a technical Subject Matter Expert who designs, builds, and maintains cloud‑native applications and the underlying platform services and automation frameworks that support them. This role blends software engineering, cloud platform engineering, DevOps automation, and operational troubleshooting to deliver scalable, resilient, and cost‑efficient cloud solutions. The Cloud Engineer collaborates closely with Agile development teams, supports customer mission needs, and ensures alignment with enterprise best practices, governance requirements, and platform standards. This role is essential to ensuring reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement of cloud capabilities across the enterprise.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as a technical SME in cloud‑native software, cloud platforms, DevOps, and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC).
• Design, develop, and deploy modular cloud‑based systems and services using languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Ruby.
• Apply software engineering best practices to ensure high‑quality, testable, and maintainable code.
• Build and maintain AWS solutions (e.g., S3, RDS, EC2, ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS) using CloudFormation and related IaC/automation frameworks.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines with tools such as GitHub and Jenkins; containerize and automate workloads using Docker and Ansible.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying cloud‑native applications and services.
• Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Ruby.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS services including S3, RDS, EC2, ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, and CloudFormation.
• Practical experience implementing Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) using CloudFormation or similar automation frameworks.
• Strong understanding of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated build/deployment workflows.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience supporting COTS/GOTS applications across Windows and Linux environments hosted on AWS.
• Familiarity with Assessment & Authorization (A&A) processes and security/compliance artifact development.
• Exposure to system engineering practices, open‑source technologies, and cloud governance frameworks.
• Professional certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Developer, AWS SysOps Administrator, or equivalent cloud/DevOps credentials.
